Projectile Warehouse is now part of Scoped Out. They show the 85gn RN in stock. I can't find a flat point so I think Cleaver have used the wrong picture.

A pistol bullet I would assume he wants to make subsonic loads.

Okay, then now you've got me curious as well :-)
These light pistol bullets also make terrific speed in the larger cartridges, 3500+ in the .30-cals.

Basically going to try to make 2 loads, one just a soft trailboss load for my lad to use,and one a screamer using bm8208. I'm envisaging the soft load to go over 2000fps and the hot load to go 3500fps. Of course that's all theoretical as I've no chronograph available

Doesn't really help much, but with 90gn Xtp I get 970 fps with 5.8gn trail boss and 1840 with 15.5gn which is all I can fit without compressing. 20inch barrel, ADI brass, fed LR primer

I stay a decent way below subsonic as have had a lot of factory subs sneak over the limit in hot weather.

Many reports out there say 110gr or less are often very inaccurate in 308 cal.

So perhaps check if they will stabilise with yr twist rate before bulk buying.

But I'm sure I'll be told to but out.

I've already used 87gn pills in a 1 in 10 twist 308 with decent accuracy.

I've used the Hornady 86gn ".30 Mauser" RN and the Speer 100gn "Plinker" RN in .30-30 and .30-06, and the 100gn XTP in 7.62x54R and .303, at subsonic and high velocities with accuracy no different to rifle bullets, at least at the close ranges they're likely to be used at (only the 7.62x54R has open sights, the rest have apertures, none are scoped). The very poor BC of these stumpy light bullets makes them less than optimal at longer ranges, they dump velocity very quickly and are significantly effected by wind. The BC of the 86gn is lower than a 40gn .22LR bullet, the 100gn XTP is a bit higher than .22LR. A subsonic load will have similar trajectory (around 200mm drop at 100m from a 50m zero), velocity loss, and wind drift as a subsonic .22LR bullet. Even launching it at 3300fps it's down below 2500fps by 100m, and below 1800fps at 200m.

I didn't find any deformation in the Plinker at subsonic velocities in wood or dirt though, they're very hard. I would use the XTP for live targets in subsonics, if it'll chamber in your rifle. The 110gn ".30 Carbine" FMJ bullet might also be a good choice if you file the nose flat to expose the soft lead.

158xtp hp in my 358win were spectacular on light game, 180xtp were also good . god only knows what a 35 whelen could do with them ;) i got a mate who'd shoot 32cal pistol bullets out of a 303 . along the same lines as your 30cal idea pete :D
