No way I am getting into casting at my age lol

I think I will buy some more of those S&B thats what i'm using at the moment gonna sell my .224 bullets and 223 cases so I will be cashed up that 223 stuff being so hard to find (tongue in cheek)

Thoughts on a straight swap from 2206 to 2206H? yes I would reduce a bit but i'm thinking starting load for 2206 would be a straight swap even though 2206H is a bit slower.

ADI have have removed all loads for the old 22 hp from their guide I gave away my older ADI load book also

You have load data there for 4895, which _is_ AR2206H. You really don't need data though. Put about 25gn of AR2206H in there, seat the bullet, shoot it and see if you like it. Even better, fire it across a chronograph and get some actual data you can work with. If it goes bang and doesn't give you any pressure signs, load five up and see if they group. Then work up or down from there until you get where you want to be.

I lean more toward the old milsurps, many of which must be handloaded if you want to enjoy them, and there is no load data, sometimes there is no brass or bullets available either so you have to make everything and experiment with powders.

Well went with 25grn of 2206 H seems ok, very slight cratering but that could be firing pin loose in a 100 year old rifle, Norma brass went fine, old Rem case split at neck but thats common even with old factory loaded ammo so both RL-7 & 2206H work so back in the game

Projectiles are now hard to find Hornady 70 grn don't seem to work very well in sav 99's I am using S&B at the moment but would love to find some some old Speer or Norma 70/71 grn projectiles, just saying (wink)

An update on powder, before I posed the question here I emailed ADI asking for their old load data as it no longer appears on the site they informed it was taken down due to primers cratering and backing and split cases. So that's interesting

I tried 25 grains of 2206H today and got slight cratering not enough to worry about but RL-7 shows no cratering

Don't use primers as indicators of excessive pressure, primer cups vary considerably. Look at and measure the case head, as well as the more obvious signs, like difficult extraction.

Done all that mate I am not new to the game pressure is fine its a safe load, I was more interested in ADI response

Having said that cratering flattening etc are a good warning sign to take in

Just read a post by a US savage 99 fan who has been using H4895 (2206H) after much experimenting he settled on 23 grns gave best accuracy with no signs of pressure issues waiting to hear back if chrono'd the load so this will be my starting point, got be kind to the old actions both Hornady & Harvey used Mauser actions so much stronger
