He's probably a good enough shot that he does it faster than with the fancy tech

This is my thought too. If you're doing it for a living you'd be good enough to hit what you're aiming for out to acceptable distances. I would think most pro shooters would only shoot at targets within a range that they knew they could hit, not bother trying to shoot pests a mile away. The only civilian use I can see for this is people who want to shoot at really long ranges without putting in the time to learn to do so.
