My wife had a session with her Buckmaster PB12M mag-fed shotty today.
Surprisingly, it went well and it was very intuitive to use, just insert the mag, cock the bolt, and thumb the thing closed.
She shredded the middle out of the target, chewing a box of buckshot up, them we got stuck into a 12" swinging gong.
She really likes it, and has told me it's hers, not mine.

2 weeks ago I bought a 7-shot tube mag Buckmaster, and she hated it. She actually said, f**k off I'm not using this thing.
You have to open the action first. Then press the mag release to unlock the lifter. Then the bolt slips forward and is held by the forend latch.
Then you have to fill the tube mag.
Then you put a shell in the chamber, or don't, whatever.
Then you have to thumb the forend latch to close the bolt.
Then you have to press the tiny stupid silver button on the lifter in, to make the first cartridge out of the tube jump out on the lifter.
Then you can shoot it.
Compare that to the mag fed one.

Now, she's used to semi-auto and pump shotguns where you just fill, or at any time, top up the tube mag. No unlocking anything or multiple steps needed.
Then you just pump or pull back the bolt handle and let it go. Done.

Whoever dreamed up this mess needs flogging.

Both shotguns came with the "breaching" brake thing, so we're not going to put any chokes in them. The holesaw on the end will stop the end of the very thin barrel getting dented.
If anyone knows if you can get a barrel-mag tube clamp for the tube-mag style, let me know. The tube mags are so incredibly thin, if you drop the gun down on the tube, it's going to fold like a birthday card.

Talking highway Patrol, I don't know anything about general duty cop cars.
The Klugers are the 4cyl poverty pack ones, no AWD, and they are not thought of favourably for long distance comfort or power. Remember the old days when we called them "Taxi packs" in the Falcons and Commos?
The unmarked Stinger you see running around town won't be around much longer, as there are no more Stingers from Kia I was told, true maybe not.
They have a few 300 series Landcruiser's, but apparently they've all spent half their lives with failed cooked engines and electrics, sitting in the dealers.
The latest Prados are not working out well either, but the previous models were well regarded.

Years ago they had AMG Mercs, before that, GTS HSV's which looked awesome in the "Fatal 5" fluoro colours and they loved them. They were rockets, not poverty pack things which pretty much sums up their gear now too. Even their pistols are the cheapest on the market.
Speer Gold Dot ammo is issued now though. Nickle cases, huge .40 hollow points.
Changing over to 9mm and green lasers soon.

As I recall Kia put the Stinger out of production.

Ford USA is talking about bringing back a rear wheel drive sedan again.

I took some chocolates and a big lump of Rose's Christmas cake into my dealer. Then went to the club and filled more bloody balloons for freezing for tomorrow's fun shoot. After breaking five in a row over myself I pulled the pin and came home and wrote an email to my local member. Then my dealer rang to say he had a Christmas present for me, so I went back into town. Somebody had just brought in a grain bag with 21kg of mixed ammo in it, no boxes, just ammo :-)

So for the past couple hours I've been sorting through ammo trying to identify it all, and boxing and marking it all so I can lock it up. It ranges from .22 Short to .378 Weatherby Mag and one .450-577 Martini empty. There's some 7mmRemMag, .270/.300/.378 Weatherby Mag, and I'm sure I saw a .240 Weatherby empty case. About 120rds of 12ga., 50rds of 20ga, 16rds of 16ga, and two old ICI paper .410's. I reckon there's around 200rds of .22 rimfire of various types, and the rest is roughly 50/50 empty brass and live centrefire ammo. It's a terrific Chrissie present :-)

Pivoting a little from emailing politicians. Now prodding family, friends, neighbours any property owner who has benefited from my assistance in both controlling pests or helping out in exchange for hunting permission. I distributed 60kg of game meat today for the various nearby dog owners. Hopefully they can send a short email to keep it happening.

All depends on your age and situation. Obviously there is a lot of changes going on with immigration in the USA, just the other day the Trump admin paused the "diversity visa" which a friend of mine from NZ got a green card with.

There have also been some changes in regards to firearms rules for foreign nationals or potentially will be.

As it stands though, if you can't get permanent residency, what a lot of people do if they are retired or retiring age is they buy a house in Florida or something and then they can visit and live there for 6 months of the year. As long as they don't overstay, break the law and have their own means to support themselves they can do that year in, year out. Every year there is a migration of Canadians down south during winter.

I would look into what programs are available, I don't keep up on it all the time. I think there are some visas you can get if you have needed skills or are a farmer of some type, but again I don't know all the details.

For most states in the USA if you are a permanent resident, you can go to a gun store, buy whatever gun you want, fill out the background check forms, the gun store calls in your information to make sure you are not a wanted criminal, felon or crazy person and then you pay and get your gun. You can buy whatever ammo or reloading supplies you want.

At the final Cowboy shoot for the year last Sunday I had a case separation in the .44-40 rifle, leaving the front of the case jammed in the chamber. I stripped the entire rifle down to clean and inspect everything while I worked at getting the case out. Discovered the spring for the out-of-battery safety was broken so I removed the safety until I can get or make a spring. This rifle is 1974 production, my 2013 model doesn't have the safety. I eventually managed to get a very fine screwdriver under the edge of the case and collapse it enough to get it out. I'll get out and run a few magazines through it soon to confirm it's running fine again.

I also sorted all that ammo I was given. I'll have to buy lots of rifles if I want to use it all :-) There were over 300rd of .22, and 220rd of 12/16/20ga. Hundreds of primed and unprimed cases, including 102 primed .22 Hornet. Also 75 unprimed and 80 primed .308, plus another 70 .308 that have been necked down to .243 and primed ready for fire-forming. There's also a solid machined .450-577 case. More than 300 bullets from 300gn .375" down to 25gn .172". 130 40gn WMR SJHP bullets and 110 220gn .308 RNSP bullets will be handy I think. And a few hundred live centrefire rounds, from .378 Weatherby Mag down to .17Rem, including 47rds of 7mm RemMag ammo. 56rds of .303-25 ammo I thought was awesome, until I measured the bullets - they've been necked up to .303-7mm, so I'll have to pull the bullets and run them through the .303-25 die. And 70 very corroded rounds of 7.62x51mm FMJ stuff, so corroded that some of the necks are breaking off with the bullet. I'll strip them down and use the FMJ's for light training ammo for a mate's son.

Did the final Christmas food shopping.
Paid off three laybys at Big W for people we don't even know, for Christmas.
It's easy, go up to the layby counter, explain yourself and what you want to do - help some people get a better Christmas.
I ask the ladies there who they think are really struggling, and believe me, they know. I don't even know who these families are, nor do I need to.
Then, all the money left over from my trailer load of 10c cans and bottles went to the Salvos bloke who is selling tickets on the main drag for Christmas cakes to fund helping others for Christmas.
I am so f***en angry at this human pig of a pretend "PM" for absolutely destroying the futures of so many in this country. I hope Copacabana burns down.
If i could convince the naive and low-IQ electorate that put this dribbler there, I would.

Dropped into the One Planet store yesterday while in the big smoke and picked up a 45L Vertex backpack. I'm hoping it will do everything I could think of up to multi day hikes (which I won't be doing anytime soonish) including carrying out sambar back legs. The harness fit in store wasn't quite as good as a cheapy Osprey I tried elsewhere, but the Vertex is full canvas and much more adaptable with a heap of places to hang stuff off yet not be over catchy pushing through brush. The Osprey felt like it would fall apart rubbing on some shag carpet it was so thin and light  I particularly like the 2x water bottle pouches on the hip belt, and I didn't realise til I got home but I think I scored a free bladder insert, which I won't use for bladders - hate the things! Plus, they're Australian made and owned so

I finished up the Hickory Wattle longbow I posted earlier a couple of weeks ago. Have shot maybe a hundred arrows through it now, so it's officially a bow. It's dead quiet being a longbow, and post final finishing and settling I'm expecting it to sit right on 45lb at my draw length, so legal for anything up to fallow. The shooting I did do showed I do need to spend some time doing a bit more shooting to get back to shooting reasonable distances i.e.25m and in.

I'm an extremely proud dad.
3 of my Wapiti cows have showed up with their fawns, man they've been a lot of work and worry but here they are. They look identical to red deer fawns with their little spots, except they are half as tall again, are a dark reddish colour (like the "red" cattle breeds) and have long gangly legs. And a different, really high pitched squeals when talking to mum.
Unreal. This is what we work for.

Bumped a young billy goat yesterday arvo, he was just an opportune thing done when on a run with the Mrs. Any billy goats showing up or fenced in as a result of the exclusion work are topped off. Head shot (what else) when he was mounting a nanny.
The 135gn Sierra bullet in some insanely fast Winchester factory loads even threw his horns in opposite directions.
But no game type animal is shot here without being used, and this morning he's in a big stew with veges as a dog food, done overnight.

Took the new pack for a walk last weekend and came home impressed (One Planet 45L Vertex). It's early days yet, but so far the minor irritations are just that - minor and in no way negate all the positives I can see so far. Being a hot day, I loaded up with a bit extra water and was halfway through before I remembered I had a bottle pouch on the hip belt which makes access much more easy on the move

IMG_6433.jpeg
IMG_6433.jpeg (448.17 KiB) Viewed 14129 times

When I stopped for arvo tea, I tried strapping the rifle to the outside of the pack using the included side pouch which worked well, especially as it already has a 'gadget' buckle for trekking poles, snow shovel handles, skis etc. It was a little top heavy, but certainly doable except for the gnarliest of scrambling. I will take my Moroka Zero QR sling pouch next time and I should be able to lower the weight by dropping it ~300mm below the pack which will also make above pack/head clearance less. The gadget buckles were really handy for the trekking pole and shooting sticks I took with me, I'm loving them already!

I was also pleased with the fit of the pack, I was able to get round a ~5km walk up/down steep hills and back to the car without feeling the weight on my hips and/or shoulders like I usually do, and having the gap up the back gives some air movement - though not really sure it helps all that much on a 30+ day

A few snacks were had along the way, and I did pass some fresh goat sign but failed to come across them in the flesh. When I was almost back to the car, I did hear rustling in the leaves and hoped to pick up a goat/s but instead found a mid sized Lace Monitor which was part Bells form (the wide stripes rather than the usual marbling). I've seen a couple of the full Bells form, but never a hybrid between the two.

All in all a good day out with no animals spotted. The only downsides to the pack I've found so far are the thick/strong fabric is somewhat noisy when rubbing against brush like Coprosma and other scratchy vegetation, the metal zips on the top lid do bang unless put on the corner, and the hip belt bottle pocket is slightly awkward to get to while wearing the pack (and I have incredibly flexible shoulders). More wearing and (ab)use to come before a final say can be passed down, but what I've seen so far I'm liking

My neighbours, a mob of some awesome ex-Afghan and Iraq Aussie servicemen who've leased a block and are doing really well with a Boer goat stud in their return to an insane new-world-order society that has so disrespected them for their work, asked me to come up and weld some hangers for their farm-gate signs.
They don't have any money, and can't afford extra feed let alone some bodgy bush welder charging $200'hr plus travel for some crooked job.

They got made two swinging "English pub style" round enamel signs, one for each side of their gate. Theyt were after sommeone to put the brackets on the drill-stem posts driven in with the exclusion fencing to keep the wild dogs out.
They're two properties up, and are in the hottest dog spot I've ever personally seen.
Due to circumstances of their service they are not allowed to have firearms licences so can't deal with the dogs personally. These are blokes who were trusted with millions of dollars of equipment.
One sign is (double sided) of their Boer stud, and the other is the classis Australian army kangaroo and Aus army logo.
One said to me, do you think this army one is a bit over the top? Will it upset people driving past and will they try and wreck it?

My view I said was that everyone out here respects you blokes, and we are proud of seeing you guys come out here and be a part of our community.
These guys, the minute the met me, have on many occasions said, whenever, whatever, you have any trouble of need help, give us a ring and we'll be down to help mate.
My reply to them was, I am humbled and proud that you asked me for help, and respect my work so much that you would ask me for help. I am planning to spend some time with them showing them how they can learn basic welding. It's the least I could do, and I'm giving them a large 8 foot square of prime lucerne again this weekend, because these guys are the cream of society I reckon.

And then I get home and turn on the news and see the human parasites running this country and the people I share this country with that put them there. What a one sided comparison.

Had some fun the other evening. It was 11F and cold and had a video to do on the new Olight PL X weapon light. So went up to the range and ran a hundred rounds through the H&K P30 and tested out the light. It did a great job and it's a dual beam so you can either go spotlight or floodlight.

Youtube video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhD2dEDPDe8
Also did a few Youtube shorts for it too: https://youtube.com/shorts/0lDEQTAXxMo?feature=share

This weekend we have a big snow and ice storm moving in that will affect much of the USA from Texas to all the way up to New England and all points in between. We might get 2 feet of snow.

Australia Day weekend, fellas !!!!!
It was bloomin' hot, so just be as Aussie as possible we ran all the old Droughtie girls through the yards. 7 in 1, pour-on, Brute, and 3 injections each.
Then spent the late arvo with a gin, cheese and savoury stuff watching the native birds, the deer and the sneaky wallabies trying to get under the sprinklers.

Yesterday went down to Anzac range at Malabar with a mate and spent a few hours not thinking about the s**t situation we LAFO, find our selves in.
Also very pleasantly surprised to find out my rifle does actually like Hornady 223 60gr TAP.
Then went home and gorged on some home grown black russian type tomatoes - oh the simple pleasures in life.
Today a snork at the beach and now cooking up a batch of chicken soup the way I like not how the missus likes (hers is very good albeit very traditional, I like to jaz mine up a bit).
And just pulled a coldy out of the fridge....

First Cowboy match for '26 today, we had a practice match last weekend. Was pretty warm but a lot of fun. The "lines" that we call to start a stage were ockerisms "Bet she's seen a cockatoo!", "Throw another shrimp on the barbie!", "Flamin' galahs!", and the like for Australia Day. I had to go the long way around to pick up a mate who isn't driving just now for medical reasons, and drop him home again afterwards. Left here at 0630, got back just after 1700.
