Collectors storage requirements

Hello all.

I am heading to check out the SSAA Arms and Militaria Collectors Club in the next week, hoping to join. Just wanted to ask here first to see if anyone knows the specifics about the storage requirements for a collectors licence. I know they’re more strict than a general licence. I am just wondering if I only need to upgrade them once I put in my first PTA etc for something else under a collectors licence? IE, I could join the club, apply for my collectors licence, be approved for it and then work on upgrading my storage after I get the licence but before I get my first firearm registered to the collectors licence?

G'day mate,
You only need to upgrade your storage when you store Firearms or Controlled/Prohibited Weapons. your Club will probably not endorse a Firearm PTA application until they are satisfied you meet requirements under the Act (mine won't). The levels of security differ between Prohibited Weapos (Swords etc) and Firearms but it is best to just go with Firearms level from the start, it is not difficult or overly expensive and can typically be done for under $1000.

Luck you are not in NSW. This type of request is taking eons to get a result. Hope you get a speedy result in Vic.

In QLD the storage requirements for collectors who have less than 30 firearms is the same as pistol owners.

Just securely bolt your safe to the frame or floor of a permanent building. Thats it!

Remember in Victoria they have appearance laws for cat C firearms.

So whilst they are cat C (Semi rimfire under 10 rounds or pump/semi shotgun under 5) they become cat D due to appearance.

So a lot of cool cat C guns you can get in other states on collector licence you can not in Vic.
