mauser 98 feed issues

Post by bigrich » 07 Oct 2026, 8:40 am

hey fellas , i posted on the "brownells" topic i received a new , "10% stronger" mag spring for my musgrave built FN 98 commercial mauser i had rebarreled to 338-06 . i had issues with the bolt skimming over the top of cartridges when i had 3 rounds in the mag . not anymore. tested with dummy rounds it feeds and extracts floorless with this new spring . so if you have a old 98 actioned rifle that's quirky with feeding , try one of these springs . not cheap at $124 posted to brissy, but it fixed it great . hope this helps someone , cheers

faultless feeding and ejection is what i strive for on all my rifles , i've had rifles let me down occasionally in the past . most unacceptable at a critical moment. how much would it have cost some poor soul to take it to a gun smith to get it sorted ? i posted in the hope this info might help . as for cost , the aussie dollar isn't worth much these days cause we manufacture very little for export to boost our economy and wealth , due to useless politicians "leadership" over long years. anyway , i'm a happy camper now with my mauser doing what it should

i think weak/worn mag spring feed problems may be behind a lot of peoples frustration with their rifles , not just mausers either . cheers
