I've had two pairs.

From memory (some scope changes since) for a 44mm and 50mm objective.

The rear covers were always good, but the front hinges snapped on both after not long.

I've bought expensive ones and cheap ones, same same last set of flip up caps I bought cost $3 each on eBay and they've lasted 12 months and over two dozen hunts

A good elastic one with hard covers is better IMO. Like what ships with the high end Bushnell scopes.

No hinges or springs to wear out and break.

Just stuff it in your pack once you're in the field, no big deal IMO.

I've used the Leupold ones which I'm sure protect fine, but the rubber cups can be a bit annoying to get on and off.

Just a little gripe...

That would defeat the purpose of flip ups then mate, they are designed to protect your scope whilst getting around the bush, then just a quick press of the lever and your scope is ready to use.

I get it...

Do you find you're brushing your lenses against stuff enough... at all?... when walking around the bush to warrant them?

Not having a go, just asking.

No more to keep rain, fog, dust, snow etc out I would think but not beyond getting a branch etc in them depending on the environment ones in. I find them good for frosty nights as it helps reduce the fog issues that can happen when ones in a warm car then stick the barrel out into the cold air.

Dust, moisture, rain, sweat, etc self explanatory. scope stays sealed and safe then a quick flick, easier, quicker and less cumbersome than removable elastic caps In my experience especially in mist and rain or wet brush
