Anyone using Inox as case lube?

Trying to find uses for a little stockpile of stuff like this I have in the shed.

Yep sure do. I spray a small amount onto a microfibre cloth and wipe the catridges. - Thats all- easy, inexpensive, a can lasts forever and you can also use it to clean your gun and other bits. I have tried all the expensive lubes, roll ons etc but you cannot beat inox for economy of scale.

Not for some time but I did years ago.

Same reason as you, just using up the last of it./

No problems with it as far as I recall.

Lasting forever isn't the problem.

Getting rid of all the stuff I've accumulated in the shed is the challenge

I'll give it a go after the next shoot.

Tell me about it.

It's spring cleaning mode here and I've got a trailer worth of stuff to use.

Can't even give it away as everyone else has a shed full of the same stuff to get rid off

Less s**t = less hassle. BUT

Lol, Had a garage sale not long ago, yep, after selling some stuff realised I had a need just a few weeks later.

I use 90w gear box oil as case lube. Works fine.

Eh... You've just gotta do it IMO and if something comes up later that needs buying again so be it.

I'm just as guilty of it, tell yourself 'might use it one day' and you've been saying it for years.

I'm much more ruthless with it these days.

Yep I use Inox but might switch to Hydrogenated Lanolin when I'm ready, either or really.

I've had this Autotechnica steering wheel for....13 or 14 years? Long maybe... That I haven't thrown out for that reason.

Basically never used, nice leather, expensive in it's day so it's a shame to chuck, however....

My new car has steering wheel airbag, integrated controls, is a different colour, blah blah blah... There is no way I am ever going to replace it with the other one, but I've still kept it

Maybe now I will toss it. Maybe

Sell it, there's still plenty of older cars out there that don't have air bags and all the other rubbish on them these days, someone would be only to happy to own it I'm sure ;)

Inox is Lanox - mx4 liquid a Lanolin based anticorrosion lubricant solvent . It should work ok as a case lube but contains liquid hydrocarbons solvents that may cause skin irritations or skin dryness . I would just try and keep it off your hands as much as possible.

Just my 2c but IMO people worry too much over case lube.

It just has to get the brass in and out of the die in one piece without too much effort. Not a particularly demanding task.

Bolt greases (or other high impact applications) are one thing, but for just sizing a case most anything will do.

It does depend on how much sizing has to be done . Cases can get stuck fairly badly if the lubricant is totally unsuitable or not enough is used .
case forming is another process that needs a good lube . Under pressure some lubricants can oxidise rapidly also called detonation . Now you are not going to hear any bang or see any explosion . However you may see a thin black soot on the case body and this soot can stick a case in the die . Same thing can happen inside the chamber if excess oil is present but generally they still extract ok due to expand up then shrink back leaving space as opposed to extrude down in the die and leave no space .
Dirty cases are a big cause of stuck cases also.

I get no shortage of tumbler media dust caked inside my die with the lube.

Forever cleaning the stuff out.

What I used to do before SS media came in is wash off the cases in hot water with half a cup of CLR mixed in . It will cut all the dust , grime and media polish right off the cases . Then rinse twice in hot water and dry in the sun or use a hair dryer.

If the cases are only slightly dirty then don't bother to tumble at all just wash off as above in CLR and hot water with 1 cup of CLR mixed in .
Only hot water not boiling water .

I found washing my tumbler media to take out all the dust and particular went a huge way to keeping things cleaner.

Before and after washing tumbler media

Cleaner brass and dies for a long time after doing it.

That red colour is also jewellers rouge a polishing agent they coat the walnut shell with. I think it is better if you just wash the cases after tumbling in warm water and CLR . They will be clean as a whistle.

For the body of the case a waterbased lube like the LEE one is easier to clean up and a dipper of graphite for the neck and I have never had a stuck case, I don't tumble much anymore as there seem to be more issues with that dirt than if you don't tumble.

Tumbling can create more issues than it is worth at times, all for the sake of a shiny case. And if I am collet sizing I don't even clean primer pockets- dead easy reloading.

In a slide of 12 I am more concerned by the result than how good I look on the mound.

Just my humble opinions,

Is Inox a good lube for inside the barrel if you're storing it for a while?

You've have to check the exact Inox product you're using as they make a dozen different ones.

They're first and foremost lubricants, not surface protection products.

Looking through their stuff I found some do claim to provide some level of corrosion protection, others do not mention it at all so I wouldn't trust it to them.

For long tern you are better off with the good old favorite SWEETS OIL, warm it under your armpit for five minutes before shaking really well to mix the lanolin and wax and don't forget to patch out before using.

I have bought 40 year old trange rifles that were oiled in early seventies whose barrels had been oiled with sweets before being packed away and after some solvent through them they were like new.

Just my humble opinion.

I'd say that. People are using dozens (hundreds probably) of different products that have various original purposes.

If it works, who cares what it was actually intended for really.
