Trading in a HOWA

Post by Goshawk » 07 Mar 2015, 6:56 pm

Hi All,
I apologise now if this post is in the wrong topic area.

I'm thinking of trading in my fluted heavy barrel Howa 243w in for a new rifle, has anyone done this before? What sort of discount did the get for their next rifle?

The barrel and action are in great condition but the hogue stock has been ripped to shreds whilst deer hunting, I have both the pic-rail and 30mm leupold rings, a spare nikko stirling 6-24x56 scope, lee reloading dies (4 set), lee classic hand loader, original internal magazine, magazine conversion kit with 5 and 10 round mags and around 100 rounds.

Canberra is the nearest city to do the trade.

Any information would be great.
Cheers

they'll probably give you half, if you're lucky of what you would get on the market... hard to sell, its a bit rough, not sought after model.....etc etc

clean up the stock and whack it on abused guns...

this as a dealer will give you $400 or $500 for the lot and that is if he is in a good mood .

Well, I have a new stock on its way from a gun shop located in QLD... only $50! She'll look like new by end of week. If one of my mates don't buy it I'll put it on the trading area.

I can't speak for every gun shop but generally second hand buy price at a dealer is not great.

My local it's about 1/2 retail less any condition issues.

IMO you're better off selling it privately then just buying the new rifle.

Trading in at a dealer is nice (lazy ) but costs you

Agree sell it privately, then buy.

His own stupid fault for accepting.

Why he didn't sell privately I have no idea.

He even had a local mate interested but CBF waiting or something and went the fast/lazy way.
