Equal and opposite reaction and all that , some energy gies forward, some must go back.
Bloody physics

The brake will harness 'some' of the gas to create a force in directions that resolves axially to the bore, ie. forward, but as a result of the remaining unhindered gas traveling along the path of the bore/bullet, as well as the bullet motion......
No.

I'm thinking that on_one_wheel is closest to being correct,,,,
I seem to recall something about air rifles being almost reverse when it comes to recoil.
Thats why they usually wreck ordinary scopes.
Anyone here know for sure ??????

Does recoil that is allowed to move the firearm backward affect the bullets velocity ?
If you have the rifle vice gripped solid, given that the rifle wouldn't recoil backwards does the bullet retain more energy/velocity?
Someone with a vice and chronograph try it please

Hi Brett,,,
Judging by your photo, I'm guessing your "forward motion" came to an abrupt end at the picket fence ????
