I thought about this but wondered if this might actually be more unsafe in some ways:

ie: If a burgler enters the house, and sees a small safe / key safe and targets it - managing to get in - he gets all the safe keys. From cracking one, he now has access to all other safes, as opposed to having to try and crack / break each safe.

Thus all the safes end up being only as secure as the weakest link...

I came across this when I was thinking of doing something similar. (A number of safes that unlock each other revealing another key, etc) but realised that as soon as one safe is cracked, they have access to the lot.

Maybe having a key lock safe inside another safe might make it more secure. Or alternatively if the safe with the keys in it is in a very good hiding place, and unlikely to be found. Yet it seems that safe kesy that can be taken away from the property or hidden in much smaller / harder to locate places may be safer?

Or maybe I'm being paranoid but I was told its not paranoia if they're really after you! ;)

My keys are kept in plain sight, hanging on the wall for all to see, along with six thousand, four hundred and twenty two other keys. Like to guess witch ones fit what;

the best place to hide your keys so that no body finds them ?
first step Dont post your info on here just a thought

'not that i have any thing to hide' you don't know who's behind that key board so best thing is to keep that info privet or privet message that person

While definitely prudent, I too would definitely recommand against being detailed, such as "I keep my keys under the doormat in the laundry"

However, I think most posts here are about ideas, and don't give away where to actually find someone's keys at their house. (I think it's possible to discuss ideas and methods without actually risking security).

sorry as I'm a security specialist by trade im always cautious no matter what .
ive seen some stupid s**t some people have done that would leave you speechless

the thing that amazes me is face book with the amount of personal information people post on there
im not surprised when it comes to identity theft and fraud .

all you need to do is spend some time on one of your mats face book pages and i reckon you will be able to know him better then he knows him self .
this forum's great i get schooled every time i read other peoples post though caution is always advised

Was chatting to an electronics buff last year, who liked to dabble with NFC (near field circuits like the chip in your credit card). He had house locks that read such chip, with it being a pet type microchip in the skin of his left hand, back of the thumb. As long as you don't tell anyone that's how it works... Not a bad idea, at least until the government makes such things compulsory... :S

If you have a digital pad on your safe, make sure to press the other numbers fairly often so they also have prints/wear, or alter the code every six months. With one of those, you only need the physical key as an emergency backup, you could drop it in a lead ingot, or chunk of plaster and leave it in the shed somewhere.

You could add a bit of sport to it as well if you had 2-3 big dogs.

Put a capsule on the collar of each one and a sign "the key is in one of the capsules, gamble wisely"

I was only just thinking about this the other day, reading some of the replies has been a good laugh. I was thinking if you were paranoid enough you could end up with a setup like in terminator 2 crossed with a nuclear missle launch procedure. I got some inspiration from a few 'life hacks' I've seen on the bookface

A few dummy key safes (mounted lock boxes) around the place seems popular with the paranoid crowd too.

Or if someone has upgraded their safe leave the old one out to be found first as a decoy.

I went and got myself an 18 rifle safe with finger print and 6 code key pad lock. I change the batteries every 10 months regardless and I have no idea where i hid the override key.

Totally unrelated but back thirty odd years I pulled up behind a new Porsche in traffic, every time the goose applied brakes I could see his spare key, freaking rocket scientist hid it in a tail light.

Not having any use for a Porsche I noted his rego number and called Vicpol when I got to work, we had a good laugh and they promised to contact the rocket scientist.

NSW coppers would probably have slunk around at midnight and stolen the car.

Buy this - https://www.bigaussiedeals.com.au/3-gun ... anism-lock

Then leave it on a dummy set of keys close to the safe. IF someone were to try and get into your safe the dummy set, they will be wasting valuable time trying to work the keys that do not work!

Just a thought!

I’ve got my spare key in my 65kg Akita’s dog kennel - there I said. In a safe...here’s how to access;
Get into the property - we have 9 cameras with email alert, so wave away.
Then arrange to get into the locked pergola area that is also under cctv.
Then, ensure the two Akita’s are not hungry or moody.
Then, find the big Akita’s kennel and coach Em out of it - a human arm or leg usually does the trick...he prefers Asian’s being from japan but isn’t overly fussy...
Then locate the small digi safe, that’s bolted through the kennel floor into concrete - you need the digi pin and...oh crap...another key...
Where’s THAT key? crap...

I dropped my keys into a strangers luggage at the airport, so even if i'm held hostage and tortured i can't tell anyone where my keys are....................
It has put a bit of a dampener on my shooting schedule though, so in hindsight maybe not the most practical solution :wtf: :unknown:

If anyone reading this has found some mysterious keys in their suitcase i'd be very grateful for their return :(

Check out the puppy watching and learning...bet old mate needed medical attention after that one...
Unfortunately - given Aust ridiculous and insane no personal protection laws, if that happened here, I’m not convinced the dog wouldn’t be put down...
