Had a few hours to kill today so I grabbed the little Marlin s/s .22lr and headed up towards one of my patches for a spot of fox whistling.
I found this nice little sandy area surrounded by low mallee shrubs and trees over looking several active warrens and with my ol faithful Andre Georgescu fox whistle I settled in for a bit of sport.
Well it was only five mins before the first fox (a vixen) came trotting in until she stopped about 75yds away I then used the old fashioned button whistle and with a couple of gentle squeaks had the fox only 25yds away and staring straight at me.
I then very slowly shouldered the Marlin and let loose a Winchester Powerpoint straight into her chest... she then jumped into the air turned and bolted, only to be found stone dead a mere 15yds away.
Ten mins later the next fox ( a dog) pretty much imitated the first one and met his fate at 50yds with another chest shot.
Once again, the fox jumped , turned and bolted and was found dead about 10yds away under a bush.
I have been after these foxes for a while now and reckon they have had a hell of a good time dining on my rabbits...not any more
