Average time when using WAO in Queensland

Does anyone here know what average time it takes to get a Weapons License in Queensland when doing it online I did mine on the 1st of November.

There is a 28day minimum wait, then you'll typically receive it a week or so after that when it's processed/mailed etc.

I would expect it any day now.

If you haven't got it by the end of the week give QLD POL a call, but I wouldn't think anything's wrong at this stage.

As above:

1 month wait before they will approve your license.

1 month wait for your first permit to acquire (PTA).

After that you can apply for new PTAs and they processes them as they come in, there is no mandatory 28 day wait before it should be approved.

I did apply for the PTA on the 7th of November, as I just needed the reference number from the weapons license to be able to do that.
Will wait and see this week out before I give them a call.

That's the way to do it.

If you submit your first PTA while you're waiting on your license to be processed you can shave off a few weeks.

Some people wait to get their license before applying for PTA and have to wait the two full months and then some.

If your PTA has been waiting while your license was being processed that counts as part of it's 28 day wait so you save yourself some time.

A mate at work said his folks rang up to find out how long it might take to get their licence. Apperently there is a ten month wait. Not sure exactly who they called (local police or WL) but I wouldn't think that would be the case. There have been some folks who have waited a very long time on the flip side of things..

Pretty sure there are a few new QLD guys who have come through the forum recently and gotten their license within a few months, not anything near 10...

Something in his past that may be delaying his license for review perhaps?

I really don't hope it's going to take month as my wife an I did the Online Weapons License Application at the same time, and also the PTA a week later, we already paid for 2 rifles. (Marlin XT22RO)

I'm also looking at getting a Marlin XT22M for small game hunting

The instructor at the safety course told us it would take about six weeks if we did the applications online, but also warned us against calling the Weapons Licensing office, as it could delay the case.

If the instructor said it takes about 6 weeks, he's in a good position to know what the times are like at the moment I guess from feedback from trainees.

You'd be due to get them back shortly.

Got my XT-22RO a few weeks ago.

Haven't taken it to the range yet so we'll see how it goes soon

Let us know if you would... I've got my eye on a Marlin but I read there are a few "quality control" issues.

Would like to know the thoughts of one of the members here though who've shot firsthand...

Send an email earlier to weapons licensing and got a response within 2 hours, telling me that
my application was in queue for processing and was told "To avoid delays in the processing of your application, it is kindly requested that you allow twelve (12) weeks from the date you applied, before making further contact with us."

So it takes at least 3 month, should not have to pay before getting the licence, why should they have my money in their account....? Not happy...

The response I got was computer generated, their online system just reply with the same message to everybody who send their ref. number, no human would have looked at my request.

Looks like they don't have the staff to answer the phone and already have a solution. Not too sure how you could ever make an enquiry when you need to, bit odd

Seriously, how long can it take to process an application?

1) Not a criminal? Check.
2) License approved.

It should take 15 minutes to put through an application for a law abiding citizen.

Provisional for 6 months and then you can apply for your full and permit to acquire, 9 months would be spot on by the time you wait 28 days twice and shuffle paper work.

Provisional just means you can shoot without direct supervision, but still not "own your own", yes?

Just did mine online on Friday and got an email saying thanks for the application and please don't contact us before 12 weeks as there has been a increase in applications by 37% up to 46000 to date

I agree they love to take your money but hold out an the license

So it's a waiting game
