The weight isn't a issue as I'm planning on using it as a carry rifle at the moment I'm hoping to shoot out to about 150-200m and maybe slowly build from there I have a 222 and 17 hmr as my Carry rifles and also a 30-06 for the bigger things

So many good rifles don't come in 223 or in a configuration that you desire. Not being a browning person I would consider the x-bolt varmint.

Yep, when shopping for my first rifle there were more than a few that caught my eye then I had to pass on because they only came in a couple of calibres, none which I wanted :(

I'm actually now thinking of a different calibre as I already have the 222 17 hmr and 30-06 so maybe something in the middle of the 222 and 30-06

Simple, 25-06! Flat & hard hitting! Plenty of good rifles are now in this cal. Very versatile

The only problem I'm finding with the 06 is there isn't much in the way of factory stuff. If you hand load then you won't have any problem. If you do want something similar to the 06 & want to use factory ammo then the 270 will be a better choice. It's almost identical to the 06 but there is a lot more factory ammo out there.

I think that might be a nice (sweet spot) .223 for both target and varmint hunting. Don't know if you're looking at Sakos, but thought I'd throw that one in the ring for consideration.

I have one of them but in 22-250, with the walnut stock. If your budget allows it I would stick quality glass on top & use the optilocks. I can show you a photo of my setup if it helps.

Absolutely! I reckon it needs glass to match. That only seems fitting. (Go hard or go home). Lol. Love to see your set up.

Sorry about the s**t photos, I've got the 85 varmint with the walnut stock. I put the optilock ring mounts on it not the bases & mounts. For glass I put a z5 3.5-18x44, it's just as good at low power as it is at high. These are fairly heavy rifles. I carry it around sometimes & notice it within an hour or so. I even use the sako stretchy sling. The photo with the target was its first ever shoot. At 100m with 8 rounds through the red circle, I think it's not a bad hunting rifle. Good luck with it.

Since you've already got a .222 that's not a bad more. No point having too many similar calibres.

You're .222 and 30-06 covers you for anything you need anyway, so you would find yourself without the right tool if you need one.

If you were after a walkabout hunting rifle I'd recommend a miniature action like a zastava, cz and a savage 25 with a 1:12 ratio, the weatherby/howa is a heavy outfit, as is the tikka. If you after a varmint rifle I'd recommend a heavy barrel howa or tikka. for a target rifle I'd recommend a heavy barrel with a ratio at 1:8 or faster, pick you brand.

I have a 260 and highly recommend it, it's just not Vic Sambhar legal, but that's where you 30-06 comes in. Good choice in calibers

CZ is always a good option.

Cheap and accurate, and with wood stocks not crappy synthetic like you have to live with in most cheaper options.

I reckon you made the right choice re: calibre.

Just about the perfect balance between your .222 and 30-06.
