Sending a Rifle Sight To the USA

Post by Wm.Traynor » 12 Mar 2016, 8:54 am

I have to send a sight back to the maker in the US for modification and I just Know that the post office will want a description of the goods. I don't want to attract undue attention or break the law. With my luck I would get caught by a scanner or something.
It is an accessory sight by the way; not the original.
What sort of description should go on the package?

G'day Wm.Traynor,
Describe it exactly as it is. There are no restrictions on such items on either side, so write "Diopter sight". The penalties for false description if this thing is recognized by Customs can be severe. I have purchased several Parker Hale, Gehmann and other sights from US sellers without any issue, Cheers.

I don't think anyone was suggesting he say it's a teddy bear or anything that's obviously a lie, lol.
