Lovely example of a great rifle, very good shooters. What barrel does yours have? Mine has a Sako, but I must admit my Finnish M24 SkY with the heavy German barrel shoots just as well.

it's VKT barrel unfortunately it's not SAKO
I am surprised by the bolt and trigger, they feels really nice, much better than my friend's Russian 91/30,...maybe the SAKO ones even better

I have one with the Sako barrel but unfortunately the trigger is as bad as on my Russian 91/30 / M44.
Maybe more authentic then!

Were the finns always improving the trigger, or are the good triggers some later commercial improvements?

This is one originally coming from the Claremont batch.
I none that none of them had the famous "D" marking, which is quite common on M39 sold in Europe.

What pills do you guys use in the M39?
Was going to try the D166 and some ELD M 178.

Yes, the S in a gear wheel is the Sako mark, Tikka is a T in an upside down triangle and VKT is usually just those 3 letters. As for the triggers, in the 80+ years these have been around many have had the triggers polished, both my 28 and 39's have very nice triggers, but my 24 is still very "Mosin"! As for the D stamp, it was not used on the M39 as they were made from the start with the enlarged throat to accept the .310 bullet. In Europe it has been added to many simply to indicate that it will accept the D166 projectile. In mine I use Nosler CC 168g HPBT just because I buy them in bulk to use in a number of .308 rifles. Lately I've been buying a lot of Dyer 155g but have not started using them in anything other than my M82 Parker Hale, Cheers.

So basically you're converted to using 308 projectiles in your M39. I will certainly try that.
A part of my brain prefers shooting undersized projectiles rather than oversized... though some say it does not wear any less the barrel.

Yes mate, a lot of blokes who also shoot with the VRA have been finding the Dyers are not consistently reading on the ET's at 1000yds and have gone to Sierra Matchkings and whenever one of them advertise in the Clubs newsletter or ask at the range I buy them. I only shoot CSD these days so they suit me down to the ground. Even the K31 which likes heavier pills such as the CC's and 174g Sierras still shoot the Dyers well at 500m. I can get the Dyers much cheaper and that matters these days, Cheers

K - thought might have been the case, thanks for the feedback No1. I haven't seen them for sale publicly anywhere in some time. Same situation here under the NSWRA; these days entry level for TR is the SMKs, and then Bergers for comps. HBC don't cut the mustard anymore.

Nonetheless if I can get em, I still use the Dyers for Service Rifle, out of my m1917. At 300m/400m prone on the Figure 12-sized bulleye, they are easily accurate enough to bring home a possible, during a slow-fire appn stage. Let alone any of the fast-fire stages. So yar, always on the lookout...
