Interesting opinions from UK

Post by Die Judicii » 08 Aug 2014, 1:33 am

Hi all,
I have joined a shooting forum in the UK called "The Hunting Life"

I recently started a thread asking the members over there about regulations they do or don't have with regard to "moderators" which seem common place over there.

The thread is titled "???? Hunting Equipment", and is found in their folder /section that is labeled "Hunting Equipment".

Some very interesting and eye opening replies have come in so far.

It seems to be a good forum, and welcoming,, for anyone interested I recommend a look and a read.

Maybe even join up.

The main guys comments are common sense enough.

He's obviously not familiar with the state of our firearms legislation here though and as you replied common sense is in short supply.

Easy enough to say "if you can justify one, blah blah blah" but if it was that easy we'd all have one.

Fair comment I suppose... But, get on You Tube, and look at the myriad of film clips associated with "NiteSite NS 200" from the UK.

That'll surprise you maybe. 8-)

I could post some visitor time figures but that's probably just poking the bear if anyone's boss finds them reading the numbers

I would go so far as to say no where near as much time lost, compared to the lost hours that companies incurred when they banned smoking on site.

I used to see workers going in and out of the work place throughout the day for cigarretes.

It was a large complex that took at least 5 mins to walk from the back to the front gate.

So; 5 mins to get there, plus 5 or 10 mins smoking, plus 5 mins to get back.

Each smoker would have at least six cigarretes per 8 hr shift

So for each smoker that equates to 2 hrs per shift lost.

There were just on 180 workers on site that were smokers.

At a production meeting I suggested to management that instead of insisting that smokers go OFF site,,

Praps have 3-4 designated smoking areas spread across the site to save on lost time.

Despite the figures, they refused the suggestion outright.

Beats the hell outa me how some managers think.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought employees were entitled (legally) to two 15 minute smokes breaks a day.

If guys are going out 6 times for 20 minutes a pop that's just them bludging.

Just saying...

Yeah mate, you got it in one shot.

The site was a large timber mill.

Production employees were restricted to meal breaks/smokos, unless they could be relieved by another employee for a short time.

However, the worst offenders were the Maintenance tradesmen, and the Electricians.

As they had no fixed area they had to be in at any one time, they used to make a meal of it with no real repercussion. ;) ;)

Where was the boss during this then? Relaxing in his office because he's too good to be down with the workers I guess. Wasn't you was it?

Oh well, if he's happy to pay the blokes for standing around instead of getting them going it's his money.

Actually, it was one of those places that really was very poorly run.

The BIG boss lived in the nearest capital city, and only came near the place approx. 1 or 2 times per year.

Then there was the 2nd in charge who also only put in appearances a few times per year.

Then you had the general manager that stayed in his office and walked around the whole site once per week.

Then there was the Electrical trades foreman, and the Maintenance Foreman, and the Chippies Foreman, each in charge of their particular plot.

So with an arrangement like that, it was quite easy for bludgers.

Don't ask me how but half the time though companies are doing the best with no one running them.

The bosses are spending cash like there's no tomorrow anyway,
