Nice one, I like the 44, one of the few carbines that can night blind me as good as a Colombian Police 30-06! Is it Russian? I can't quite make out the receiver marks from your photo, we recently had a gorgeous Polish 44 come through that the owner had been shooting with old Eastern Bloc ammo that he thought was non-corrosive so he didn't clean it well, Bore had more pits and craters than the moon.

SHV's stock is marked with 02, this is the code for the Hungarian Mosin - and the B for Budapest. 11 would be for Poland from memory.

Yes I would agree the M44 is a nice toy, not the one you want to shoot every day, but not one you want to sell either!

Mine is a Russian one from 1946, blueing is 100%, not a mark on the wood and pristine barrel.
Have not handloaded for this one yet, the picture is my best group so far at 100m, with PPU match ammo (not available here in Oz...)
The muzzle blast is visible even by day!

Good spot Vince, I was so taken with trying to see the receiver I never noticed the stock mark. Mine is also Russian, Izhevsk, not pristine but still in good to very good condition and shoots well.

Thanks guys
It’s really a toy rather than a tool
Ammo is expensive and rifle is heavy
But it looks good and should be fun to shoot

Nice. I have a Polish M44 that is in near new condition. It is finished to a high standard and would shame many new budget rifles. I have a scout scope fitted to the rear sight base that is solid but comes off without leaving any damage and a cheap Chinese rubber recoil pad. I have it sighted in to hit the 500m metal gong at my local range.
