Goat hunting in VIC?

Post by juststarting » 29 Mar 2016, 3:16 pm

Are there any areas in Vic to hunt goats? Or do we even have goats here, in VIC? Any tips are welcome.

Not very prolific but yeah Wombat, Mt Cole. More western regions. Most are taken on private property.

Hunt, eat,.. Not sure what you're asking if there's a hidden meaning to your question.

looks like someone has moderated their hatred towards hunters, and possibly their 'only kill an animal to feed a village' position..... thats ok, we all grow up, eventually.

Awwww, princess, you are still banging on about it. I haven't changed my point of view at all. I am still very much of an opinion that senselessly killing an animal to simply mount their head on a wall, without any other purpose is wrong. Sounds to me, like you need a hug Genesis93. PM me, we can catchup, I will buy you a nice appletini and a big hug. Seriously man, you sound like you need ah hug.

Hi, I'm interested in your opinion. I aim to start hunting in the near future and will focus on pest animals. In the case of animals such as foxes, wild dogs/cats, would you say it's fine to just shoot them? How about other pests such as rabbits, goats and pigs?

I personally aim to eat as much of what I hunt as i can, however, considering these animals cause harm, particularly when they kill heaps of local wildlife, I wouldn't have much issue with people performing clean kills and doing whatever with the rest.

Food and pests, sure... This is getting old though, Genessis should really stop ruining threads and being a pest. Let me put it differently, I was at the range few weeks ago and I was looking at a particular rifle... The owner was somewhat proud of it and the conversations went along the lines of 'oh love this gun, took a zebra at whatever yards with this, last year in South Africa'. Question, why does someone travel half way across the world to kill a random animal for no good reason... By the way, his reason was - he wanted a rug. Also heard someone on ABC radio talking about hunting and I sh*t you not, the guy actually said, 'I just woke up one day and knew I must take a lion', when asked follow up questions, it was along the lines of 'yes, to establish myself as a man' or apex predator or some sh*t like that. I just completely disagree with those moral convictions.

This is what Genessis is talking about:

Yeah that's messed up. I guess some people enjoy killing for the sake of killing. And killing a lion makes them feel even better. Sounds like something along the lines of the "pig-sticking" business I've read about. Very intimate killing. It gives hunters a bad rep when that happens. I am hoping for quick clean kills. I'm also a video game fan so the idea of BOOM headshot instant kill with a purpose is a lot more appealing than some ego-hunting-trip or bloody tussle with a pig. I am looking forward to trying to use the pelts of my pest animals as well as their meat. I'd love to be able to make something out of their bones too, like at least some teeth or whatever but not too creepy haha. It's all very exciting but I'm glad it never crosses my mind to go off and hunt a lion just to get some bad-ass rug or lion fang decorations. Just a bonus from the "good" hunting.

Having said that, I once spoke to a lady who traveled the world killing non-endangered animals with a bow and arrow. She showed me a photo album of her kills and it did seem like a trophy hunt where she was collecting different species. However, she said that she always found some local village or community who would take the meat from her kills.

Thanks for the link BTW. I am personally also peeved a bit when people recoil at the idea of hunting and call it cruel while they chomp down on meat that comes from an animal that has lived a miserable existence in a pen. And then there are the smug people who mock vegetarians, but then go off and hypocritically avoid the issue of the meat industry and reality of where meat truly comes from.

The irony of the situation is that for many of these species to survive (In game parks / reserves etc.) they need significant funding, management and protection from poaching. Many African states can only do this with big games hunting income.
For hundreds to live a few must be culled.
Some African states have now put a ban on banning hunting.

Time to shoot the moral high horse in the head. I don't eat meat (so don't hunt for food) and haven't for decades and hunt game and pest animals just for fun and couldn't give a rats about the ethics. My favourite way to hunt pigs and goats is with dogs and a knife.

As for the OP's question on goat hunting in Victoria.. most state forests have a population of feral goats.

Mate, you can't accuse Genesis of ruining threads and being a pest then start baiting him in the same topic.

It's hypocritical and just as bad (worse following the accusation).

It takes two to tango.
