one rifle two calibres

CZ457 currently 22LR. Do I need a PTA to buy and fit a 17HMR barrel?

You don't need a PTA to buy the new barrel, if it is a switch barrel arrangement leave it as 22LR but if it is going to stay as 17 you will need to inform LRD of the change of calibre.

Though, strange as it might seem...You can actually buy this rifle with the two barrels

if you bought a sako quad you could get the complete set of 4 barrels 17hm2, 22lr, 17hmr, 22wmr with the rifle . dunno how this would go with WLB , cleaver in QLD sell 22lr, 17hmr, 22wmr for around $300 barrel and magazine to suit . sounds like a PITA having to inform WLB every time you want to swap barrels . i'm not sure this is the case in QLD. there's some fellas that shoot in big game comp at my local range that have blaser rifles with changeable barrels , as do schultz and larson rifles .next time i see them i'll ask the blaser owners what the law is regarding multiple barrel rifles up here in QLD . you've aroused my curiosity :D

i've thought about getting a cz457 myself as i've had a desire for a 22wmr of late . not having to put in another PTA for another rifle and just change barrels sounds like a handy thing , as is the ability to change out to a aftermarket barrel like a IBI or a lilja if so inclined . do you have a 24" sporter rifle , or the varmit version ? let us know how you go , i'm curious about the cz457 and would like to hear any feedback you can give . cheers

I bought the Wedgetail as a .223 then bought a 300 BLK barrel as well. The extra barrel did not require a PTA but had to go through a dealer who notifies WLB.
As far as I can see there is no requirement to keep the extra barrel as once you have it you can do what you like with it. It is not numbered .

I ended up buying 2 additional barrels(.22LR & .22WMR) for my CZ455 in the 3 years after I bought the rifle in .17HMR.
Dont recall needing to do PTA's for each extra barrel, but the dealer had the extra barrels added to my rifle as 'Major Parts'.

Rifle was purchased in QLD and is registered in QLD, if thats relevant.

Be aware that when cleaning the .17HMR barrel, it's VERY easy to get a bore-snake stuck in it, which took a LOT of stuffing around to extract.

Of the 3 barrels I've had for the 455, the .22WMR gets the most work; The CCI VNT ammo seems to give me good results.
