My wife was a copper for 10 years in Qld and left because of the attitudes of the people and the superiors and what the general attitude towards the public not "in the job".
Many police look at the public sweating blood to pay taxes to pay their speed camera overtime as the enemy.
For example, in her country role they would come across terrible car accidents on highways and usually the ambulance paramedics would be there first, because they police would be faffing around at domestic violence or drug issues etc.
But if they weren't, and she could see that if someone involved needed immediate help like stemming blood loss or whatever, she'd climb in and try her best to help the people who would surely die (her assessment) without help.
She'd get huge trouble for it too, she was told "we don't get our hands dirty, we are not blood mops" bullsh*t for helping people and would mercilessly be victimised by anyone of higher rank. She loved the job but she did not fit in at all with their "us and them" down-looking attitude towards the public.
Now, she looks after their health better than they would get anywhere else, because she knows their issues.
Personally we have best friends both male and female unfortunate to be still police, and you would not believe the mental health issues that the real genuine cops are suffering because of all this bullsh*t. So bad I will never mention here. Suffice to say, if one of you have these mental health issues and are openly getting treatment for it, you would not have a firearms license. But these coppers are told to strap one on and go do the governments bidding, who cares. Do you know how many police suicide at their desks with their cheap plastic pistols that they are scared of? But ssshhhhh, keep it quiet.
I stir them up when I say, well, not everyone is good enough to be a tradie or an engineer, people like you need jobs too. But it's on them to either care for the people, or care for the "man".
But some of them are just narcissistic types, and it is they who rise up the chain and negatively influence the lower ranks who still try to help their communities.
