what does it take to get a semi auto in WA?

Questions about Western Australian gun and ammunition laws. W.A. Firearms Act 1973.

what does it take to get a semi auto in WA?

Not that I'm planning to but is it even possible?

I saw it mentioned that a "self loading rim fire rifle with a magazine capacity no more than 10 rounds" was under a category C licence but what about centre fire, it doesn't even mention it.

Would being a primary producer be considered as a valid reason?

No, centre fire semi's are category D and are only available for Commonwealth or State Government purposes.

I think Macca's referring to rimfires.... generally cat C was created for primary producers, farmers who have a 'need' for such a 22. If you're on the land you can apply, just need to demonstrate a cat A or B is inadequate for the purpose....

Queensland is the only state to allow Primary producers to have Cat D centrefire.

WA looks like it has the worst laws in the country.

All depends.

There's good and bad aspects on all sides, eg there's a lot of Club shooters other than Clay shooters in the East that would love to be able to have pumps and semi auto shotties !!!!

If they could justify a need, I'm pretty sure farmers can apply, if it doesnt explicitly state PP, its an application to the Chief Commish(/Minister)....

Landowners and PP can have Cat D in QLD if they have severe feral problems, i forgot to mention landowners.

The gun grabbers are sympathetic towards farmers , i have found none that object to them having semi autos when the situation is explained, this is probably a good place to start, they don't have much sympathy for ordinary people to have Cat D so best to stick to mentioning farmers etc in overturning this law.

I think it's absurd that a pump action rifle is allowed yet a pump action shotgun is not.

I had (rather, someone else had into me) a pretty big car accident a few years ago and did a real number on my shoulder.

Going to have to keep this up my sleeve for the future maybe ;)

I'm pretty sure disability is a genuine reason e.g. Losing a hand or a few fingers in an accident and not being able to operate a bolt then a semi could be used.

Yep.

It's just a matter of convincing them the disability is sufficient. Not just a boo-boo as an excuse for one.
