Well my American RF WMR failed me today. Had its first ever misfire...just when I needed it not to fail....right as I was holding over a foxes head in state forest this morning... Little bugger got away, really disappointed about todays hunt.

Not sure of the cause, indentation on the case seemed a little shallow. I re-fired it afterward into a tree out of frustration and it shot fine.

Ammo was CCI 40gn maxi mag (http://cci-ammunition.com/products/deta ... oadNo=0024).
Normally very good ammo, it holds the tightest groups for the rifle. The CCI subsonic ammo I use for my .22lr is also normally very reliable.

Firing pin may be a bit sticky. Perhaps dissasemble the bolt and clean it, including a drop or 2 of oil on the firing pin before you assemble it.

Went for my first hunt a couple weeks back, was a goat hunt on the North Island of New Zealand.

A family friend took us into his spot, leading us through thick scrub, up and down the ridge pushing through overgrown gametrails and across swollen streams, it was a real adventure! The hard work was rewarded with these 5 goats, of which I shot one, the missus two and our guide the other two. We took the meat from the back legs for curry and left the carcasses for the pigs as our guide wanted to come back in in the following weeks with his dogs for some bacon.

All were taken with a 6.5x55 swede and hornady 140gr SSTs.

we followed a stream through the scrub and emerged into a steeply tiered clearing backdropped by a sheer towering cliff face, the ground was strewn with large boulders and thick grasses which hid underground streams so you had to watch your footing. I spied a decent billy at the top right sitting in the shade of a tree and tried to get the missus on to him, he was about 250 yrds away, we moved up a few boulders to try and get him in the sights but he casually stood up and walked out of view.

The missus spotted the white kid, walk out of the bush on the far left and lined him up at ~200yrds and took him cleanly in the neck, I was handed the rifle and lined up the nanny who was with the kid, I put the crosshairs on it and quickly let out a shot. All the while our guide was frantically trying to get us onto two nannys only 25yrds in front of us to the left that we had failed to see! we handed him the rifle and he got his two.

I reckon those 4 goats fell in less than 5 minutes, but its hard to know! Our guide and I then worked our way scrambling up to get all the animals together for a photo, meanwhile the missus took the rifle and headed off ahead of and to the right of us, I found the nanny I had shot, and what a feeling! sure its no trophy but its still my first :D. It had died instantly with a large wound to its spine at the base of its neck. While I was rolling the carcass down the hill we heard the swede boom once again, followed by an exclamation of got it! the missus had taken her second at about 100yrds, It apparently stood there just watching her as she put the crosshairs on its chest, it too fell instantly.

After photos and collecting meat I was tasked with leading us out, I tried my best to follow the game trails and ridge lines we came in on but managed more than once to lead us off the trail, if not for our guide I would have had no chance as the trails seemingly disappeared into the dense scrub, It was great to have the experienced hunter there to point out the game signs and keep us on the right path, It has certainly given me the drive to try a similar hunt over here in Australia.

This guy was quite fat and heavy!
An obvious sign he was enjoying an easy feed.
Always good to see another one out of the bush.

 the photo doesn't show how steep the incline was. I couldn't get enough traction to pull him out from under the log. I had to hike back to the ute and get a tie down strap and use it to slowly inch him out bit by bit :D. Had to keep him tethered to the tree to stop him sliding down further in the the blackberries at the bottom of the gully

Yep, the tenterfield style whistle brought him in just after the second lot of calling.
This male was making some noise as he came in that ive never heard before from a fox. Almost like a half assed bark, he was making sort of a "oof oof oof oof" noise, but not a deep noise like that of a dog, it sounded more like a chimp or orangutan.

Hunt report from last weekend's deer trip.

Image

Doughnuts, but I am getting alright with open sights offhand shooting, so that's kinda good.

...mouse traps are still empty, thought found them triggered and moved, so potentially I have a rat or a mouse with a roids problem. Alternatively, my dumbass foxy triggered them... Need to get a rat trap to confirm.

Just no good :/

I have now learnt how to post pics so here is a couple of a big old bull camel I shot in the south eastern Pilbara about 2 years ago. He was an easy shot about 80 yards away, He was unusual in that most of the bulls that old, have their tusks broken from fighting, his are still intact. The pastoralist who was with me reckoned he was the biggest bull shot on the place.
