OHHH the frustration I feel at Belmont, Madden Range (Brisbane) when you're only allowed to shoot at the 300-500m silhouettes from certain benches and knob heads(uninformed or just general knob heads) are sitting at BENCHES firing away at 25-50 yard targets with there clapped out Lee enfield 303's and not even hitting the paper. (not that they are a bad gun, they have there place)

Also don't you dare try and set up a bench down in the COMPLETELY EMPTY standing area (which has access to shoot to the aforementioned silhouettes ) otherwise you'll hear about it big time. That's why 95% of my shooting, even target is done off ranges and out at property's at Gatton. Probably wont be renewing my membership there and just pay full fee every time I've got to do a quick sight in close to home before heading out.

While i'm here, are any of the other ranges at the Belmont complex any better??

I reckon I'd be the old guy putting hunting rounds down range.

What's wrong with using a range to sight in and test loads? And if you use a brake to hunt, you want to use it when sighting and testing loads.

Just sitting here, testing about bunch of old farts reminiscing about walking to school for 10km, in the snow! Bare foot! In QLD.

Guns are fun, let people have fun, as long as it's safe it's all good. Last time, I dropped 50 clay targets from 25m to 50m, and one of those flipping steel targets and just unloaded 400+ rounds from bunch of rifles just because I like to see them explode and hear there ding sound.

Dude next to me was shooting 338lap with a muzzle break, I thought that was fun. And good for your skin Dude on the other side was carefully printing holes on paper with his hand loads, I thought that was fun too.

I don't really pay attention to what others are shooting at the range. I'm just there enjoying myself. if someone's happy to sit there and shoot at 25m all day then good on them. I usually take along 4 different rifles each week and throw up targets between 25 and 300 depending on what I take.

At the Coolilup range one day a bloke who ran a winery was letting random visitors shoot his .338 Win Mag at nearly $4 a pop.I quizzed him on it an he said he likes the grin on their face and at $4 its worth it.

I guess I may be a 100 metre amateur.I started shooting about 12 years ago at Little River in Victoria, I really didn't get a lot of help but remained stuck at 100 metres for about 6 months at which time I moved house to where there was no shooting range. I have just started back after a break of some 10 years, so I am am only shooting 100 metres at the moment but hope to progress to 200 metres in the next few weeks.I am also just getting started again on reloading. I sort of struggled through it last time and being fairly ignorant am lucky not to have blown myself up. This time there is so much great help on the internet, the like of which was not available when I started. Must say that after selling my guns and all my reloading equipment it's hellishly expensive to start from scratch.But it.s such a great challenge to create your own bullets and then have the fun of shooting them It ads a whole other dimension to the "sport".

Welcome Colin, you aren't wrong about it getting expensive, the more you do it the more expensive it becomes LOL.

When I started reloading some 30yrs or so ago I only had Nick Harveys book to go by, which was fine as it had everything in it to get you up and running and then some. I still don't get into all the full on reloading stuff that some do with their target shooting adventures etc (really not that way inclined I guess, I'm happy to knock out basic ammo that suits the rifle I'm making it for and the application it's intended for.

My man came to our reloading place for the first time this afternoon and pressed. 243 reloads for the first time and loved it . He admitted to having a flinch and we are going to work on it this weekend. Guess what, he is after a smaller caliber. I only wish for one rifle. Ha ha ha .I have 7 again. We all need 13.

Brute, it's not just young bloke and not just at short ranges. I sat at a bench once at 300m shooting my 7-08 with an untested load. The load didn't impress me but was holding 4" at 300m in gusty side winds.

Two blokes nearby shooting semi custom tacticool .308's with $2k scopes and couldn't keep them on paper.

Some purple appreciate help and guidance. Others can figure it out for them selves, eventually

Heck prividing they are enjoying themselves what does it matter. I also get a laugh out of watching people shoot their 300wm at 50 seems wasteful to me but its what they want. Heck i started a few conversations a few weekends ago shooting my 45-70 out to 200-300m sure groups werent the best but i had a ball and by the end of it all i found id hit more than id missed. Even inspired a young bloke to give the 300m targets a shot with a little help he was hitting targets and hopefully next time will start pushing himself a little more.
