Tikka T3 Lite not really lighter?

Hi,

I'm looking at the Tikka T3 range of rifles for a light weight sporter.

Basically comparing the Tikka Lite vs the Hunter, Hunter Fluted, Battue and Forest models.

According to the spec sheets, the Hunter/Fluted/Battue/Forest models are all 3.1kg or 3.0kg. The Lite model is 2.8kg.

200 - 300 grams doesn't seem like much... At 200 grams less than others definitely doesn't seem like it warrants bragging about it being "Lite".

I'm judging this by reading a bit of paper though obviously, not owning both the rifles.

I dunno, for the nice finish of the T3 Forest or whatever other option, do you guys think the T3 Lite is worth it for such a small weight saving?

200g is 200g in anyone's language. That's half the weight of a scope in a hunting rifle.

Now compare the T3 lite to a Howa M1500, don't worry it weighs 3.4kg in a short action

Now the lite is 600g lighter

Tikka called it the lite because even though all T3 rifles regardless of cartridge share the same action (with differing bolt stops) however the forged action and small ejection port make it so strong it can be made smaller and lighter than other actions

Hell even the T3 varmint only weighs 3.6kg

i have a tikka t3 lite stainless in 300wm and a hunter stainless in 300wm exact same scopes and exact same mounts.
theres 100gms difference. i honestly cant tell any difference when carrying either. except i much prefer the hunter. so much nicer to look at.
my varmint t3 204 however is stupid heavy and gets carried from the safe to the ute. thats it.

If you are looking for a light sporter have you considered a Marlin bolt action XL7? Not in the same class as tikka but ok. Very light at 6.5 lbs and very reasonable price wise. I have a 3006 and happy with accuracy and love the accutrigger. Having said that just picked up an identical rifle in 223 short action ( XS7, even lighter) and it has a feeding issue, but expect to have it sorted without any hassles. They come in basic black or with a cammo pattern.
