How far back can I move the scope for eye relief

Gday I've put this second hand leupold vari x 3 1.5-5x20mm on my cz 550,only problem is the eye relief is slightly too short at 5x and I have to creep forward on the stock to get a clear picture. How far to the end of the scope can I move it backwards do you think ? The rings are as far back as they go so its the scope that has to move now.

Try one of these and some low Weaver rings.

I use these to get the flexibility of a Picatinny rail on dovetailed rimfires.

Then I can only suggest a one-piece bridge mount with integral rings - can't get any more classic than that.
But you're likely to still be stuck with the ring positioning.

I'm not familiar with the scope so I don't know what the objective lens design is like - maybe just try it and see.
How far do you need to come back?
You could mill away the front half of the ring but even that's only going to give you 10mm or so.

Coincidentally, I have the same scope, only it's on a M70. The front ring is practically flush with the very front of the tube. I know a pic would be better but posting is not possible at present.

To be honest, I never gave it a second thought when mounting it. Maybe it is the wrong thing to do, long term but so far it's been OK

I'd be cautious of clamping too close to the objective lens.

Maybe if it has been fine with WM's, it is ok. I was just concerned about cracking the front lens.

But they still need Weaver rail adapters to fit the dovetail.
I bought some of these to mount a holo sight on the Stoeger Condor rib - they might not destroy the look you're going for.

I'd have to be naked to have less clothing I may try a thinner pad if I can get the old one of,after all its only a 308

Check your length of pull before you start chopping stocks and changing but pads to determine your personal lop each person may be different Standard length of pull is 13 1/2″. To measure your length of pull you should measure from the pad of your index finger to the inside of your bicep. It is important to make sure your index finger is in the position as if you were shooting the gun (your length of forearm is the factor your after) other than that you may have to go to a longer scope i personally like the way your going I have never been a fan of solid mounts over the bridge just looks wrong TO ME
