Ridiculous trajectory tables...

Post by Kipper » 23 Feb 2014, 5:00 pm

One just for fun.

I was reading about the 45-70 on Wikipedia and for some random reason it has this trajectory table at the bottom of the article comparing the 45-70 to the .308 Winchester shooting at 1,600m

Image

82 yards elevation

I'm sure that's been of heaps of help to people.

Just in case anyone confuses the .308 with the 45-70 I guess... :?:

Well looking at that table it's fairly clear that you cant hit your buffalo ON the head with a 308 slug!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

The 45-70 (and 45-120) was the original long range cartridge. It was used well out past 1000m and the current 2km open sight world record is held by a 45-70. Elevation was measured in feet not MOA

Love the angle on that table for the 45-70

Looks like you'd be shooting into the sky at about 40 degrees

This must be where they get their stupid ideas about people trying to shoot down planes!

"I'm not! The trajectory is just really terrible!"

I think planes cruise at about 30,000 feet?

Judging by that table I think the 45-70 would get a about a 10th of the way there
