Had the best time ever shooting today.I remember now why I stopped using the 7mm for F/Class.The 168gn Matchkings hurt after 10 shots.The best group I managed was prone on the back of the ute at 275 metres where I put 3 in a fox head target.Uncomfortable as hell but stable.I miss my plastic benchrest that had adjustable feet and could use over the bonnet.The plastic table is O.K. at 100 but not stable.2 things will be done.

.Develop an F/Class round based on .473 inch base or 308/243 as I have an Howa action in this size and I am learning that this is the same size as 8/57 mauser from the turn of the century.Any help will be appreciated in choosing a chambering like 6mm/284 or 6mm remington.I am going to buy a 30-32 inch barrel locally and get one of them whiss bang adjustable stocks in bright colours

I had a howa that was trued and rebarrelled to 7mm-08. Shoots some very fine groups out to 600yd (haven't shot it further). I looked at going 284 but decided it wasn't suitable for the how action as I want this rifle to double for varminting.

If and when I ever have the cash, I'm building a 284shehane on a solid action.

You will find that the 7remmag will be toned down significantly by such a long heavy barrel and a beefy stock.

The 7mm Rem Mag Sendero is staying as is its the Howa action in .243 that I intend to build a target rifle out of as the 22 inch steel barrel is rusted and I will be replacing it any way.I am interested in building a target rifle and had not considered 7mm/08 which has the same base size as .243/308.Need to do more research

This bullet in 7/08 at around 2500-2600fps is looking good out to 600yrds.What were you using?

162gn amax at about 2700fps. I'd have to look up the exact velocity.

I have had some good advice from Grenfell and am probably going with 260 rem with 1.8 twist and 28 inch barrel
