Training handgun

Post by Conallin24 » 04 May 2017, 7:02 pm

Hi guys, I saw this in an add the other day. It's a bright green (I assume to show it's not a real gun) training handgun. I was hoping to find out if it's legal to own in Vic and/or Nsw. Thanks

From my research into training aids they are legal in vic as long as they couldn't be mistaken for a real firearm ( bright green should be a pretty good clue that its not real )

Does it have a working slide and mag and stuff?

No, they are solid

Bear in mind , if you do get one then modify it in anyway to look more realistic such as paint it or drill a hole in the barrel it can be deemed a firearm.

They have very similar weight and balance as the real thing.

I have some of them - they are legal in Victoria. I bought them because they were on special for $19 a piece and I just added them to an order I was doing, but I wouldn't pay much more than that as they have no real purpose.
They have no moving parts at all, although some have rails that will accept accessories.
A lot lighter than the real thing but the feel is similar.
The 1911 is probably not more than 200gms.

The ones I handled must have had a steel frame inside or something they were quite heavy

The Platatac ones are heavier than the green ones as they do have steel inside them. Still way lighter than the real thing though - maybe half the weight.

I've handled some at one of the gun shows here in melb, definitely legal in Vic. Not in NSW however, I think they are a restricted firearm or some such. Which is ridiculous as its nothing more than an over glorified plastic toy for middle aged men. :D
