9mm loads - 145gr projectiles and ADI AP50N powder

hi guys and gals,
i am just starting to reload my first 145 grain projectiles with adi ap50n powder
and i cant find any relevant info on what amount of powder to use.
i think about 3.7 grains would be ok,but any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Cast or jacketed?
ADI lists AP50N 3.3gn as max with the 135gn cast. They don't list AP50N with any jacketed bullets.
I would guess that 3.7gn is going to be pretty hot behind a heavier bullet.

That load as others state is on the hot side, if you can let us know the projectile details such as make, materiel & manufacturer I'm sure we can get you a good safe starting load.

they are 145 grain LRN made by a local guy named john connors who makes very good projectiles,and are coated in 2 coats of something i cant remember the name of ,gold in colour though.

I would stay under the 3.3gn then.
Do you need to make a specific velocity (does IPSC "power factor" still exist these days?) or are you trying to load just hot enough for reliable cycling?

N330 Vihtavuori is the same as AP70 there is no load for N320 or AP50

Don't overlook the OAL. As little as 030" depth difference can more than double the pressure!

Looking at ADI's formula's - it appears as though most OAL's are near maximum (1.165") for AP50, whereas AP70 generally allows for shorter loads. If looking for greater power, AP70 would be a better choice. (AP50 would be better for quick recoil recovery, but not for power)

Too much. I use 147gr copper plated projectiles, 145gr and 135gr Hi Tek coated cast lead projectiles and have tried many loads in several semi auto handguns.

With AP50N I would start at 2.9gr powder with either the 145 or the 135gr projectiles. In either an STI Rangemaster or Jericho Baby Desert Eagle I have best accuracy results with the 135gr projectiles and 2.7gr of AS50 powder or 2.9gr AP50. You will also get great case life, less recoil while still achieving perfect cycling of actions.
