4wd tires at max 80 psi

Post by Carter » 09 Jul 2017, 4:49 pm

G'day guys,

A mate got a new 4x4 recently and we were checking it out today, noticed on the tires, BFG's, that the max tire pressure is 80 psi cold :wtf:

Running 80 psi must be like driving on bowling balls though, right?

And the chance of popping one if you hit something vaguely pointy must be crazy.

Most guys run 40-45 psi on the road, lower for off road.

When would you ever run 80 psi?

Fu;k no! May as well replace them with steel bands at the pressure! Although you'd get awesome fuel economy at the pressure

Whats the max rated PSI for BFGs? I dont think I've ever seen a max psi tire rating above 55psi...

A lot of 4wdtyres are rated as light truck tyres. This is where the 80psi comes in. Like someone said earlier its for when ur
carrying 10t on a set of duals. On a 4wd vehicle its40 max on the seal & 28 max off road for me unless carrying heavy loads

I have the A/T KO's, load ranges are:

Max. load single - 1,400kg - 80 PSI cold
Max. load double - 1,285kg - 80 PSI cold

Never had them anywhere near that of course.

My rig's a bit shy of 3 tonne loaded - weighted towards the back some - and I've found 40psi front / 42psi rear to be a good balance all things considered.
