303 grouping

I have a 303 fullwood when i take it out for a shoot the first shot is always on bulls eye @ 100yds
Now this rifle shoots about 3'' groups at best
Is it just shear good luck that the first shot hits the bulls eye because this has been happening for years
I'm thinking its a tighter cold barrel causing it

If it's truly averaging 3" @ 100yd (i.e. large sample size/hot barrel), that sounds about right for No1 Mk3. We need to know your exact model to provide more information.

Not sure it has a number c9054 stamped on the barrel and breech 1943 on stock 111 HV also on stock if that tells you anything

I'm no expert (please military buffs correct me) but I'm gonna guess It's probably an S.M.L.E. No1 Mk III HV (mark 3 high velocity). If so, 3moa is actually quite reasonable (if it's truly averaging 3" @ 100yd that is). I recently bedded and crowned a 303 for a mate for good results but the best tweak was to change the trigger to a huber concepts trigger

this rifle now shoots less than moa all day barrel sights over a bag and factory ammo
I should also say he is in his 70's but young at heart LOL

Yeah only factory sights the rifle has never been touched only the previous owner changed the bolt to an older bolt sith the round finger pull
rather than the rectangle one he said the headspace was checked and ok
He wanted the original bolt to make up another 303

And Marksman your mate is only 7yrs older than me and i too like the old 303 just a reliable old rifle and quiet capable with accuracy
when you get a good one
I have a farmer that has given me another one for shooting wild dogs for him he has 4 303's all fullwood and all highly accurate
All we have to do now is the paper work
When i asked him why he didn't shoot the dogs himself his slow and straight reply was '' Can't see the bastards any more,nearly shot the wifes goat
thought it was a dog couldn't stand loosing the goat and the mrs on the same day ''

I have a problem with my 1894 mk1 lee enfield .303 rifle.
When I shoot groupings it alway trows the second round about 2 to 3 inches away. On 110 yards, rest sub moa

Round1 ,3,4,5 in a tight group but round 2 always away.
Changed shooters, loads, projectile types and weight.

We only shoot hand loaded ammo, shoot from a x-bag and fead the rounds 1 by 1 to test groupings for hunting. Its alway the second shot/ the follow up shot so to say. Barrel only shot 300 round more or less. Its a sporting 303 and the crown and bedding was also done

Any ideas where to start

Have you checked the king screw? Is it bottoming out in the hole?
