What do you take with you on short hunting trips?

A battery operated mini strobe is worth having if you need to be found in the dark.... I don't carry a lot of gear, lighter, cube of jiffy, water x 2-3 times what I think I will need, snack rations x 2 times what I think I will need, knife, gun and about 20-30 rounds (more than needed but could be useful for distress signaling if needed), first aid kit to suit the conditions..... 2.5 m x 1 m sheet of clear plastic (many uses)..... compass, gps and map if in unfamiliar area.... that's about it...

Edit.. 100ml of Isopropyl Alcohol and a couple of tubes of super glue (for any bad cuts etc..) hurts way less than stitching your self up lol....

LOL.. I slipped and tumbled down a slope once and had a knife on my belt come out and stick me good, I was bleeding real bad and had to stitch it up with a big ass curved needle and fishing braid.... lol... And yes it hurt like a b i a t c h !!!!
Btw.. knife lives in the pack now until needed !!!!..... Lesson learned !

I don't go bush without a tube of superglue in the first aid kit. Had a mate who got in the way of the dogs (when I was young and fit enough to chase pigs) tore the back of his calf almost off without the glue it would've been interesting trying to sew it shut.

Super glue is smart, I will put a tube in my first aid kit.

I always carry a few old pillows cases, make great meat bags and stop my pack getting rekt.

10m spool of strong paracord, multiple uses but came in handy last week to skin a young hind in the field off the ground.

Bike tube as a fire starter.

Space blanket - apart from emergencies I have used it as a drop sheet for keeping meat out of the dirt.

Heres a hint for those that use a lighter for wind direction - I have taped a lighter to one of these keychain retractor things and i can attach it to my backpack straps or bino harness to keep it hand at all times

If you find yourself in a position that you need to glue yourself back together, don't go squirting it deep in the wound..... You are only trying to close the skin layer, it can cause issues particularly if used deeper than that... There are other versions of the glue that are better suited for this application although they can be significantly more expensive, vetbond is a reasonably priced option (its not certified for humans, but we are all animals) It also contains a dye so you can see where it is applied... If you wanted to control serious bleeding without actually applying an adhesive directly on the wound then you could apply the adhesive around the area and apply a section of plastic sheet pulled over the area in such a way as to pull the wound closed and also create a seal to prevent blood loss...

Point is there is risk involved, but clearly bleeding to death is a serious risk in such situations.... I would rather live and let the experts deal with any potential secondary issues that may arise from such emergency measures....

That's the way ya do it. Pinch the skin up not into the wound itself.
