45lc/410 pump action, legal?

Post by beerhog » 16 Mar 2014, 9:27 am

Just a hypothetical question I thought of after looking at the circuit judge. If I had a rifle similarly chambered to the circuit judge but was a pump action would it be legal.

Would the rifling in the barrel make it a pump action rifle and therefore acceptable or would the ability to accept 410 shotshells make it a pump action shotgun and therefore evil and unacceptable?

I have no desire to own such a thing but am curious how it would be classified under the ridiculous gun laws introduced by jackboot Johnny.

I can't remember the wording exactly, but there is something about this in the firearms act I'm pretty sure.

Basically the highest class a firearm could be categorized in takes precedent.

e.g. if it has a combination of A and B components, it's category B.

Combination of C and B components makes it category C and so on.

Interesting question, just goes to show how stupid our gun laws are.

This is from VIC firearms act.

category B longarm means any of the following-
...
...
(c) any combination of a shotgun and centre fire rifle;

category C longarm means any of the following-
...
...
(c) a pump action shotgun with a magazine capacity of no more than 5 rounds;
...

category D longarm means any of the following-
...
...
(c) a pump action shotgun with a magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds;

They're 5 shot right? So it would be Cat C in Victoria if I read everything right.

Only good if you're a primary producer then...

Thanks for that. By my reading of whats there though it would be cat b? ANY combination of a shotgun and centrefire rifle. Really does make the mind boggle.

But then the 'pump action shotgun' portion makes it Cat C and takes precedent.

No dice :(
