Anyone drinking with LifeStraws

Anyone tried one of the LifeStraw drinking tubes?

Seems ideal instead of lugging out 10-12 litres of water for a weekend like I normally do.

All their marketing stuff talks it up heaps like they'll clean just about any water source into fine drinking water... Anyone used one though?

How does the water taste at the end of a slurp? Good, or just "better"? :lol

The cook bought me the small one for my birthday last month & I tried it in the Shoalhaven River in the fresh water part.

It is a different taste but you can easily get use to it.

They did a demo at my LGS where they drank muddy water through it in-store.

Definitely looks like it does the job... Turns filthy water into clear as far as the eye can see.

They're suppose to remove all bacteria and algae and the works.

They're only $30 I think, worth a try.

it's interesting technology, a $20 unit will filter about 1000l of water, that's only around 2c per liter, a bit cheaper than Mount Franklin eh?

the life straw unit would be something i'd keep for emergencies but i'd be more interested in one of the pump products that i could use to fill a couple of water bottles for drinking and cooking where water is suspect. the hand pump units use a similar ceramic filter and can process about 2000l before a replacement filter is required

There's a video on youtube where some science teacher at a uni or somewhere stirs a bag of cow dung through a beaker of water and drinks it.

She's obviously pretty convinced it works

Yep, that's more useful than a filter that's only for on the go IMO.

Better to stock up at camp than be forced to head out just to get a drink.
