For ssaa ranges, yes.

At a SSAA range, you need a chamber flag, during cease fire, in all rifles; and magazine out or floor plate dropped. If it's something like your marlin, lever open and flag in. You do not need to remove bolts and you do not need to do anything crazy. The end. There is no 'depends'.

That's for commoners like me.
Competition rules may be very different, but I don't know about those.

My brother has shot at SSAA Majura and hasn't seen any chamber flags before.

Yes, they sell them there... 50c a pop, at least at Little River and Springvale. The catch is that all your rifles need to have them. So if I have 4 bags with rifles and 1 on the bench, bags need to be open so RO can see the flags and bolts open or lever out; and 1 in the rifle on the bench.

You could easily make your own, bit I just purchased them there.

Nope, still working on that one.
This is the RAR bullpup chassis with the .204 Predator in it. It fits all the RAR short-actions though.

If you look at the new .223 Ruger you'll see I've put a muzzle brake on it, just to show my brother why we don't like muzzle brakes
I prefer simple birdcage flash hiders so I can rest the muzzle on the ground without worrying about it getting plugged.

I'm going to try and make my own for a 6.5 creedmoor that has a threaded barrel am getting for Christmas. Will update results when its all sorted.
When I shot Bretts Flinchmaster the brake filled my eyes and mouth with dirt. I thought it was meant to fills others peoples faces with stuff not the shooter.
