How do people manage their cleaning equipment...?

I often put off cleaning firearms due to now having so much gear thats turned into a jumbled mess
...
I used to be organised & have everything in one spot/container (except rods)...
But now, ive collected many solvents, (most of which i use or at least want to have on hand depending on what needs cleaning), & it doesnt all fit together anymore.

Ive tried seperating into different lots--ie one lot for the range, one small lot for hunting/a portable field set-up, one big lot at home etc...
But that didnt work as i ended up with cleaning gear everywhere...so now its mostly condensed together again, but messy due to space...& being OCD, i suffer from wanting everything at hand which doesnt help...

So curious as to what others do, feel free to describe specifics in your kit(s), what its stored in, transporting, & even pics...

I have a piece of PVC pipe bolted to side of the bench with all rods.

Solvents are up on shelfs, away from kiddos. A very good friend works in a lab, so I get this for jags and brushes. Really convenient, keeps everything clean and labelled.



And it all lives in an old toolbox.

Hey OB...have you ever got to the water on a fishing trek with schools of fish being caught & had to use a bronze brush as a lure...?

I carry a length of fishing line and a rag that I can soak in inox to make a pull through.

When out:
hunting - bore snake only (oil or some lubricant at camp).
range - bore snake and oil (oil for my old milsurps and snake because I usually forget to patch oil out at home).

I've got more cleaning gear then Sadie....usually managed pretty well despite the cramped environment.

I have tried to simply things as much as possible and not over complicate things. Bores can get damaged with over cleaning, so I try to avoid using bore brushes. These days I use a product called Ramrodz, which are disposable tightly wound cotton on a piece of bamboo. Makes for an easy clean on pistol barrels and they now have a plastic tip that fits on a cleaning rod that will hold a Ramrodz, so they work with rifles too. Easier than dealing with jags and patches.

I use a number of the MTM jag and brush cases to keep all my different cal gear separate. In each one I keep a jag, a few brushes, mops and some patches. I just grab whichever ones I need for a range visit.

Made a separate portable kit for the camping bag

Cheap bore snake (about $2 from Aliexpress), kmart microfibre cloth cut in half and small G96 can

It worked well back at the campsite after walking in the rain for a while

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can have its merits at times....I've pretty much got it under control these days but dirty barrels are one of the triggers.

It's a bit dear bjt for the sake or organisation and convineince i think jts aorth every cent

Plus it will cover almost everything you need from what I've seen so far besides getting nylon brushes for copper etc but I'm still learning

Jags, mops, brushes, adapters, bore guide, patches and stuff in a tackle box.

Oils, sprays and solvents in a cardboard box in the shooting cupboard with reloading gear.

And this is the reason ive started the thread sungazer...for the portable side of things...
I use KG carbon cleaner & the bottle with its spiky lid is really tall--I might have to find a different bottle to put it in, or use a different carbon solvent as finding an appropriate sized box/container is proving difficult.

Im thinking of going back to 2 kits--everything at home, & a portable/range/field kit each with its own supply of solvents.

I think you may be onto something with the two kits even if it is a partial replica of what you have at home. I am just so surprised at the Hoopes bottles that leak if they get tipped over. They seem to rely on the cardboard washer in the top. I think it has been more of the benchrest one as well which is the more expensive. I was not that into cleaning at the range preferring to chat with the guys who were cleaning theirs. A good time to get info from the experts. However it is easier to get that carbon out while it is still fresh and hot.
