Flash suppressors Victoria

Post by schink » 31 Mar 2014, 6:40 pm

Just checking...

Flash suppressors are off-the-shelf legal in Victoria, right?

Just asking after the Ruger Scout import drama when they came out, but now everywhere is stocking them.

The issue was something around the thread/attachment, but I didn't catch the specifics...

If you (for example) go the Scout, so you need a PTA + something for the FS?

Or it's just the rifle, and you're off?

The issue was that the thread on the first Scout matched a thread commonly used in military rifles in the US, so it got caught up in their ITAR business.

The Australian version has a different thread so that's no longer an issue

It's not mentioned anywhere AFAIK.

It's just another rifle with a threaded barrel. No big deal.

As long as we're talking strictly "flash" it's fine.

If there is any incidental sound suppression though, it would be no even it's it's labelled as "flash".

So I can't just put a sticker that says "flash suppressor" on the side of a suppressor and make it legal?

Damn!
