Taking the front 6" off laminate stocks to save weight

I've got a Tikka T3 and Ruger 77/17 both with laminate stocks which aren't light.

I find when holding either of the rifles that the my forehand is well behind the end of the stock. I could comfortably take 6 or 7 inches off the from of the stock and it wouldn't interfere with my grip.

The barrels are floated, so I guess I'm all good to do this?

Am I going to change the "harmonics" or whatever it is

Every change will change something. Might not be a negative, or anything noticeable... e.g. your point of impact could change but still be just as accurate so once you've sighted in again your good to go.

If the barrel was floated the full length already I don't think you'd have a problem.

As long as you're certain you wont want to use a bipod, or need to rest it on anything in the field.

Resting on your barrel while taking a shot isn't going to be good for your accuracy if you find you need to do this after cutting the stock off.

Managed to pick up a second hand Tikka stock to use instead of committing on my regular shooter.

Going to do a test chop with on it and put the .270 action it in for a while and see how I go.

Can always swap back to the original stock if it doesn't pan out
