I bought a barrel and had to identify it.
It occurred to me that it might be useful to have the information online somewhere.

It's ten pages out of a 532 page book. If the publishers consider it a breach they can ask me to remove it and I shall happily do so, it will be their loss, not mine - I don't make anything out of advertising their book. Consider it to be a tiny preview of how terrific this book is and buy a copy. I have listed the title and the author so anybody wishing to own their own copy can buy it. But they are quite expensive for the later editions.

The first editions are reasonably priced, you might manage to pick one up for $60 if you wait long enough. The newer editions are more expensive - you might be looking at $150 for the 3rd edition if you don't want to be trawling auction sites indefinitely. Don't forget to add 10% GST if you buy it from overseas. I know the WA State Library has one copy of the 2nd edition but I haven't found any others. I'm not aware of any more-recent edition.

If you like variety and details about the designs, with lots of diagrams the 3rd edition is an outstanding book - I haven't seen the earlier ones.
It's 150 pages of the more common milsurps - Enfields, Mausers, Carcanos, Arisakas, Krags, Mosins and Springfields.
And 340 pages of more US-centric commercial rifles.
The barrel shank drawings were the main reason I wanted it as I couldn't find them online - I have now though so I thought I'd share them.

It also has an _extensive_ bibliography from Gun Digest 1944-1996 and American Rifleman 1933-1995.
