Sooo, for those aren’t heavy pill-on-the-brain... and for 270 owners.
After checking a Bazzilion ballistics charts, there are two very flat shooting calibers that really stand out.
One of course is the 243 with a 55 grain pill going 4050fps. Has minimal drop out to 400 when sighted in at 200 yards. It’s almost impossible to beat in terms of trajectory.
The next closest I keep coming back to is a 270 with a 90grain pill, at 3600 FPS. Now I have a 270 and run those, it’s flat to 200 and absolutely wallops everything, including deer. But has a bit more drop out at 300 and 400, but is still manageable. There really is nothing like stupid velocities to bring something to a screaming halt, having used almost all pull weights, for shooting dogs with NV I want flat and fast.
Would any 270 owners consider trying a 75 or 80grain pill, some load development required, if I could get them made? I might know a guy, but to tool up might cost a bit. Not sure if they will be BT or flat base yet. But we’ll see. Just wondering if this might interest someone else?
No need to ask “why wouldn’t you use a 110 or 130”. Because I don’t. 90s are good in my vanguard.
