Luring deer with recorded grunts and calls

Post by huccl » 23 Apr 2014, 10:15 am

Anyone done this? Doing this?

I was reading a bit of mimicking deer calls with 'tips' on how to make the sounds convincingly. Sounds ridiculous to me when I do it though

Nothing like a deer. If I wouldn't fall for it how would a deer

What about recordings though? If you could get some high quality recordings from a nature show or something like that... Should that work?

Suggestions? Other ideas?

I reckon the idea is sound.

Carting around the player for it might be the pain. You're iPod isn't going to have much volume/clarity for cutting through the forest.

No good blasting out a call covered with static from some under powered speakers.

I would guess anyway...

That's almost exactly what I was picturing

Do they sell 'em here or you got yours from New Zealand?

I dunno how well they work, but if you don't want to muck around with batteries etc. they do a few deer-horn type things that you just blow into to replicate their calls.

(It's not called a 'deer-horn', I dunno the proper name... You get the idea )

Just another option.

Grr, I had a webpage bookmarked with recorded calls for all the Australian deer and can't find it. Mustn't have clicked the right button or something...

All I can remember was the website was brown

If anyone know the page and can link I'd appreciate it.

Some blokes do a pretty fair imitation of ducks. I wonder if deer calls could be learned - might have to practice in the privacy of ones bedroom though!

That'd get the neighbours talking! :-)
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

The bloke does say that in the video for the sound gun thing.

It's "for people who can't roar to save themselves" according to the video.

Dunno who these people are that can roar like a deer but I'm not one of them.

I dunno about that stuff. I'm sure someone can do something that sounds 'a bit' like it to us.

Wonder if the deer are fooled for a second though.
