Left action port on right handed rifle?

The idea is you work the bolt right your right, feed the cartridges with your left.

It's for smoother / faster loading at the bench.

Nothing to do with being a leftie.

On a right hand bolt action the brass would eject from the right as you feed from the left.

Same principle as above re: reloading speed/smoothness.

It has nothing to do with "lazy benchrest shooters" what so ever, in fact quite the opposite.

Left bolt, right bolt, left port, right port, dual port, opposite mini port or any combination you wish that suits your style.

Remember that most Benchrest has a time limit, can be shot under far worse than ideal conditions striving for the ultimate in accuracy. Short to long distance so, if the conditions are bad ie very windy / rainy then you have to make the decision of when you fire your scoring rounds. In some cases this may be 5 or 10 rounds in super fast time to take advantage of a wind break or between showers of rain or both.

There is also one National Champion that has a "Bum" port .... bet that has you thinking. Make it easy for you, feed a live round and extract it from the rear by removing the bolt every time. Bet you can't beat him for speed or accuracy. Hall Of Fame member.

Single shot target rifles can be shot as quick as any magazine feed and in some cases faster if a magazine needs to be changed.

Dual port even with one being a mini port is considered to be more stable as far as action build is concerned than a single port action.

Not only Benchrest, but other forms as well.

I'd seen that but not realise what it was. I assumed the guy was just removing the bolt each time for some reason.

Didn't see the specifics. The bolt just freely slides out without a catch does it?

That's a strange game though IMO. Just shooting away without looking at anything with a rifle in a vice.

The action is a short action and the normal port is too short to feed in a cartridge the calibre used.

There is no bolt stop or ejector as far as I remember so push it in the back and remove the same way, using both hands. One to feed and the other to remove bolt and fired case. tap on benchtop to release fired case.

This one is not a rail gun.

With the left port, right eject you can actually feed a bullet in prior to the spent case completing ejection. Virtually all the same motion and quick.
