Suggestions for .22

Hey guys,

In the market for a cheap .22. Around about $500 excluding scope. I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before but I couldn't seem to find anything!

Will be used for rabbits/foxes and the occasional target. Can anyone suggest any I should be looking at?

Should have no trouble in that Money getting something decent

My Marlin cost me under 450 with a decent burris scope..

Have seen savage's for around the same money.. Most LGS offer a 22 package with a rifle, bag, scope, bipod/torch etc rifle for around 600 bucks

You do not need to go new.

The Bruno mod 1 or 2 were and still are very good. They are hard to wear out. Mine is over 30 years old. I have a mate who is a better shot than me. He just put 4 rounds into a hole 3/4 the size of your little fingernail @50m.

Often you will get a scope already fitted as well. As said above there are lots of Daedalus out there.

Go to a range and fire as many as you can. Do not get sucked in by looks. What shoots well comes first.

I'd say you'd struggle to find a Brno Under $600, I recently sold a 1980 model 2 for $675

Second hand CZ would be good IMO too.

Getting with a scope if possible is always a money saver too.

Buying them separately always ends up costing you more.

They seem to shoot ok. Just a few material changes to make them cheaper than the Ruger Hawkeye's basically.

Plastic stock, no metal floor plate, two stage safety instead of 3, plastic mag... They're half the price though so that makes sense obviously.

Seem to shoot just as well though for people giving them a go.

I see Lithgow arms is bringing out a new .22 "Aussie Made" .. Haven't heard to much about them, but here's the page.

I'm putting off buying a .22 till I see what the storey is with these.

In my opinion for a first rifle you can't beat a SAVAGE MK2 FV.

It's fully free floated, comes with the accu trigger, heavy barrel, comes with dove tails for sights/scopes, the bolt is nice and crisp, very very accurate, and parts are very common and easy to find and mags are fairly cheap.
