Hand adjustable dies - Any problems coming loose?

Hi guys,

About the hand adjustable reloading dies like the Redding and others.

Does anyone have the problem with the adjustments coming lose and changing your seating depth? Other problems?

Wondering with the force/flex bumping the press around as you do you work if they need readjusting?

Better off with a 'tools' version where you spanner a nut tight?

Opinions?

No problems what so ever, I'm pretty sure companies selling these dies have taken your concerns into account during design

Nope.

I'm using Redding hand adjustable dies specifically. No problems.

Prior to that was using RCBS dies which required the spanner. Nothing wrong with the RCBS at all, they did the job fine.

Much prefer the hand workable Redding ones though.

Nah, they work fine.

You don't really need that much friction to stop them turning when you seat the bullet.

The bullet is pushing up after all, not against the thread.

No no problems with it.

In the past I used a handful of dies across a handful of different bullet types and the RCBS always works perfectly for me.

Mates loading similar stuff at the time had issue with things like denting the bullets with other brand dies.

Switched to Redding with my 7mm-08 for the finger adjustments and I only shoot ballistic tip loads with it and it seats the bullet perfectly, so I'm sticking with them for my setup. The hand adjustments is definitely more friendly than the RCBS spanner setup though.

Aside from that, no complaints for the RCBS dies.

Not seriously...

I have a 120gr load smaller game/varmints and a 140gr load for larger game, both using Nosler Ballistic Tips. I really only hunt these days, any time at the range is just for fun or mucking about with friends, introducing them to shooting and things like that. No need for anything more.

I'll probably try the 150gr or 168gr Accubond Long Range at some point. But I'm not in any rush as my 2 loads do everything I need.

I use a Lee bullet seater and measure from the o-give using a comparator. After doing a batch I only see plus or minus .0005" so goes to show even the cheaper gear can do a good job.

I knew they'd be more convenient of course but wasn't sure if you sacrificed a little for that.

Wondered if maybe they were 'hunting accuracy' dies and not ideal for really chasing accuracy.
