Where to buy knives online?

Post by Gun-nut » 03 Nov 2018, 10:12 pm

G'day everyone,

I've recently been interested in purchasing a kabar bk10 knife for camping/outdoor use and have searched into several online stores, (haven't been able to find any stores in and around melbourne that sell them, so if anyone knows of a place, please let me know) So far I've been interested in purchasing from 'cutting edge knives': http://www.cuttingedgeknives.com.au and have been wondering what people's experience has been with this site, if any. If anyone can recommend alternative sites also that'd be great as any advice would be helpful at this point.

Cheers in advance.

Atlanta Cutlery do Ka-Bar.
https://www.atlantacutlery.com/ka-bar

I've bought bayonets and slings from them, knives I generally just buy off Ebay.

A quick Google found this.
https://www.legear.com.au/bk10-becker-crewman

Brownells also do Ka-Bar.

Got a couple from Cutting Edge including my current favourite, this Applegate Fairbairn fighter by Boker.
I've no complaints.

Cheers for the replies guys, I appreciate all your advice. I ended up purchasing the knife off ebay from the link bladeracer provided (so cheers bladeracer :drinks:) It came in the mail a couple days ago, and I'm pleased with the result so far.

Cutting edge knives bad

Post by Urastus » 19 Feb 2019, 3:14 pm

I had a bad experience with Cutting Edge Knives. I ordered two advertised knives from their site. I was informed one of the knives wasn't available, even though it was advertised. Because of the high cost of postage for one knife, I canceled the order. One knife with their postage cost was too expensive; postage is less with more items; I wouldn't buy one knife from them. I was told that I would be charged 30% of the knife that they did have in stock, as a restocking fee, and that this was explained in their terms and conditions (they were pretty officious). I went and read their terms and conditions, and restocking fee was for returned items - but nothing had been sent. I pointed this out to them, and they insisted on the 30% charge despite nothing being sent.

Good businesses I have found :) https://www.globalgear.com.au, https://gocommando.com.au and http://knivesonline.com.au

I just bought two knives from global gear. If you become a member (it's free) you get a 10% discount and free delivery. Their prices were good to start with. I'd try them first :)

Also, fasttech and gearbest are surprisingly good. Slow delivery. I had a broken knife arrive from Fasttech, sent them photos and they refunded me. These two don't have brands like becker though.

An update 18/4/19. Those 2 knives I bought from globalgear both had dodgy sheaths; knife wouldn't come out of one, the other one was very loose. I returned them and got a full refund. It's good to know what a business will do when things go wrong! So, I recommend them. Their pricing seems to be on the two extremes, outrageously expensive with the occasional great deal - so know your prices, and also factor in the 10% discount (for members).

The other store I bought from is http://www.jpt-australia.com/knives_main.htm. It's a one man operation and a nice bloke. This store is related to gocommando, but different staff.

Best for me is

https://www.knifeshopaustralia.com.au/

high end knives as well as cheaper ones. Good range of butchering knives too - German F Dick brand from $20 - boning knives. Have bought Fallkniven and Benchmade from him - Excellent advice and service from Rob.

BTW Victory butchering knives and steels from NZ are great value - Rob the owner said theyre widely used in abbatoirs here - why dont we make our own? I was disappointed to find out Furi knives not made here as I thought.

I use BENCHMADE knives - in S30V steel. Hold a wonderful sharp edge for a long time and very nicely made. Can feel the quality in your hand.
They are available from various reputable shops including ebay.

Just got a 10cm victory drop point from that site today, will be my main deer knife.
Already have a victory boning knife and sheep skinner, awesome value knives that hold an edge much better then my simmilar priced victorinox boning knives. I dismantled 5 deer last year with the boning knife before it saw a steel.

Yep mate thats the one.
Havent used it in anger yet apart trimming a roast but it feels great, the shape and material of the handle seem like it would do well in wet and finnicky situations. The blade is finer than I expected which I dont mind.

Plus I am a big fan of bright coloured knives, orange, white etc are so much easier to find in the bush than green, black or wood handles.

Just regurgitating this thread. :violin:

Anyone ever imported these knife kits?

Any drama importing?
Blade quality.

I need another knife like I need a hole in the head.

But they seem very cheap and good steel. And I like the odd project. Not looking at folders, just drop points.
