Sight/ Scope Recommendation

I just picked up a Remington 7600 police in .308 cal.
Was thinking of going red dot, but keen to listen to peoples thoughts.

A red dots limits you to close in shots, bit like open sights. A low powered variable would give you more flexibility. 3 - 9 or 4 - 12.

I would think that 100m would be max range for most pigs down our way, with most closer.

Aimpoint. Not cheap though.

I have a similar question, I'm trying to decide if I get an Aimpoint or a 1.25-5 Leupold for a pig/brush gun. Not a heap of difference in the price, the variable is obviously more flexible but you're going to get faster target acquisition on the red dot.

I have Chinese red dot and reflex sights that I've used on numerous rifles without any problems at all. I prefer the reflex as it offers better precision than red dots do, and is far less bulky. Neither are magnified but I can add a 3-power flip-out magnifier in front of it if required.

The problem with both systems is lack of precision. With no magnification you need a very big reticle to be able to see it. Red dots are generally 3MoA or bigger. The Reflex is particularly handy to carry in a pocket, pre-zeroed, so you can swap it on in the field if you have any problem with your scope.

I have a C-More 'Railway' red-dot holographic sight on my Marlin 336 .30-30. I already had a rail under the scope I had on there previously, so it was an easy install to change over. The C-More is reasonably low-profile (compared to a normal scope), but still higher than the original iron sights.

About the only think I dont like, is I really need a cheek-riser for the Marlin stock, to be looking through the sight, and still have a decent cheek-weld.

The C-More has about 8 different levels of intensity on the dial.

It has been on the rifle for maybe 5 years, and despite not getting much use, the few times I've dusted it off, the C-More has been up to the task.

Was a bit tounge in cheek - ive got one I e messed with but nothing serious, it startles some animals. It is a bit of fun zeroing etc.
Put a green laser on a rabbits foot and watch him jump about 8 ft in the air.

Have a look at the trs-25 from Bushnell. I've got one on the 30-30 and can't fault it. Very small light weight unit that adds nothing to the weight of the rifle and at around $170 it's not a bad price.

You hunting rabbits at 50 with a 308 scj ??
At least ya shouldn't have to clean up

I haven't used the 7600 but I thought they were more accurate than most lever-action rifles, and not far behind the average hunting rifle?

It was far worse than you think, it was a 416 Rigby and even the dog didn't get to eat the remains. It now has a 1.5 to 5 Leupold for some long range sniping.
