Picked up the last of Lawrence Ordnance's 7.62 NATO a year or two ago. Would love to know where to get more. I'm slowly burning through my reserves and will run out sooner or later...

Well Bugga ADI, you would think they would do a batch for here .... But being in bed with our government, it's prolly against policy or something. Looking at the US prices it almost seems worth importing it back to Australia. Anyway thanks for the answers guys, much appreciated :)

They aren't allowed to sell anything military in Australia, hence why it is shipped overseas for sale, sucks but that is the way it is.

I remember the 7.62 coming loose in the big wooden boxes, still have a couple of the boxes.

No doubt Lawrance bought it back from the you-ess... perish the thought of some local product being generally available.

ADI/Thales(Frenchies) are the primary military contractor for us, was spun off from the governments own corporatised operation, I think early or mid 90's or thereabouts...not about being in bed.

I though the name was MaccaOz.....

Technically(very technically) we have never made M80 7.62 NATO here in Oz.

We were never a signatory to the NATO treaty and were chipped quite a few years back for calling our ammunition NATO (and for using the compatibility headstamp), even though it is NATO spec in most cases.

ADI 7.62 was distributed freely then at a nominal charge to rifle clubs for many years and some of it was still floating around six or so years ago. Most of the milsurp 7.62 NATO I used many years ago was Pakistani stuff and not too bad at all.

The restrictions on militarily produced stuff is ridiculous, you can even be in big ****** for old (but current issue) army uniforms and webbing now.

I don't really know the whole story, many years ago my uncle was secretary to a government minister and the subject came up in the shed one night when looking at some fullbore gear and he noticed an empty with the cross in circle(NATO compliance spec) on the headstamp.

Unfortunately he is now deceased so I can't really ask him, I might dig further.

Can you even get up to much trouble wearing a military uniform?

Obviously you need ID etc, to get onto an army base... They don't just let you stroll in because you're wearing camo.

Fake cops uniform you could cause some trouble. Army have no authority in the public space though right?

So what could you do? :?

I have strolled in to Government property many times simply wearing an electricians pouch and flouro, it is not as free and easy as it used to be now we have electronic access cards but people still see someone they presume to be an electrician and the threat warning seems to switch off.

I have slipped in with a group without having to use my pass many times and NEVER been questioned. The same would apply with an army uniform I presume.

But the real reason they don't allow current issue to be sold as surplus is the theft factor..

Yeah I suppose so.

Fair point on the theft issue too.
