Prohibited weapon permits

Post by Staghunter » 20 May 2014, 5:27 pm

I have applied for a prohibited weapons permit (silencer) for my newly established feral pest control business, seems as though every time I jump through each hoop the firearms registry comes up with, my application gets put back another couple of months, and I am now being asked to address issues that have already been extensively covered.

Anybody have similar problems or solutions.

Any advice would be apprecated

I havent had any dealings with this sort of permit mate, but I'd say the whole jumping through the hoops thing is on purpose so it becomes to much of a pain to get it too easily .... Maybe Im just a pessimist . Let us know how it all goes though :)

Welcome to Australia mate.

Edit: It's unfortunate that we have to put up with all these hoops to jump through and red tape, but there's not much we can do besides support pro firearm parties. And I'm sure if everyone wrote to their local members expressing how redundant our current firearm laws are a few times a month we would achieve good things much quicker, let them know there are a lot of us disgruntled by the silly laws and regulations.

Persistence is the key mate. Even if you're entitled to these things they won't make it easy for you.

Long story short... A colleague of mine has his license suspended on the basis of not being a 'fit and proper' person (temporarily, due to a misunderstanding)

They asked him to 1) get a letter from the GP saying he was ok, and 2) provide a statement himself saying he was ok.

He did both of these things and they came back saying they weren't satisfied and he needed to provide more information, including a letter from his GP (yes, asked for the same thing he'd already provided).

To skip to the end, he got his license back after a year and didn't provide anything more than statements from himself, and from his GP. No additional 'evidence' provided as to his suitability. He just had to stay on them and be patience, and not accept them taking his license without due cause.

Stick with it.

That's the spirit.

They don't make these things easy for you in the hope you'll go away (IMO).

Keep plugging away is the answer.

I have applied for the same thing 4 weeks ago and no news is good news so far however I am waiting for the hoops to arrive from the registry. After spending $1500.00 to get mental health assesments and associtaed letters from GP's and furthe rrefrences just to get my licence I am well prepared for anything. I like the challenge and will persist until they paint themslves into a corner.
