Favourite animal to hunt?

I was just chilling at the dog park and thinking of how I should be so excited when I shoot a fox but I just aren’t If I have shot many hundreds of pigs and probably less than 20 foxes shouldn’t I be more excited about shooting a fox? So what’s your fav and why ...I’ll kick it off. I have shot thar and chamois in nz scrub bull red and fallow deer horse donkey pig goat fox cat hare and rabbit dingoes For me , thar are the ultimate but my age and finances no longer allow it , then wild dogs/ dingoes and red deer are what really does it for me

I personally love chasing foxes cunning little buggers at the best of times. I also enjoy going out after pigs although haven't had the best of luck lately given the lack of rain and have not been out since easter.

Azza Please send some of your cunning foxes over to me because for some reason I seem to attract all the dummies I bring the quad to a stop, if I’m useing headlights turn off the lights , start scanning and there they are already within range so I just shoot them from the quad

Perhaps, if it is the challenge you are after, then you need to change your method.

I would like to try whistling foxes into real close range I have a whistle but need to be more disciplined regarding remembering to have it on me at all times ...when I used to hunt cape York dingoes with a compound bow that was the most challenging and serious approach I enjoyed

Hey scoot have you been talking to some of the women of my past...?...

...i find most i get (which is not very many) they are pretty stupid & not too challenging...(im actually talking about cats now... )
But i think that depends where they are/where you hunt them, & the pressure they're under...

When i say stupid, i find the area i get them they are no challenge as compared to the foxes in the ssme area ...

This was the last one I've hit, like you find stix it was quite easy (his tail was wagging above the grasses like a flag).
Alot of the time this isnt the case. Most of the cats in my area are combinations of black/grey so they blend in very well. Hard to spot unless theyre moving.They are quite spotlight conscious so after an initial eye shine they are unlikely to shine up.again. very good at slinking away or behind cover to make you work a bit.

I agree--i think they are so much more destructive than foxes to our delicate native's...ill happily let 4 foxes go to get one cat...!

I like my cat skins--I have most of the skins from the pics i posted above...(i keep skins of all the cats i can find after being shot--its amazing how camouflaged even the blue/grey ones are...the first cat pic i posted above i actually looked for it for 10 mins & walked right past & stepped over at night thinking it was a log--by the time i found it at 4 pm in 38 degrees the next day i couldn't bring myself to skin it out).

Ive just noticed you're in SA...what general area you in ? ..ill have to convince you to salt up the furs for me...

Yea...actually im probably out of line a bit...i dont really "hunt" the cats--but i do get an incredibly wide & stretched smile & inflated sense of satisfaction when i shoot them from opportunistically crossing their path while trying to outsmart foxes at night...

i imagine my favourite would also be deer...because ive never actually hunted them...
A good feed from a kill through a successful hunt & stalk would be hugely pleasurable...

These ones go back to when Highland were sponsoring that competition.
But the tabby was pretty damm big.

The most challenging animal to hunt I reckon is the Unicorns.
Spent an awful lot of time on those hunts,,,, and still waiting for the day I'll get on in my sights,,,,,

By preference the Indian Mynah for sure, we have moved house three times in 35 yrs and always good to cleanse a new area with fire support for the Native Mynah and other native birds, also I gain satisfaction from shooting crows.

Likewise with sending cats to wherever they go in the afterlife, foxes and and pigs all require skill and knowledge as well as the necessary equipment but purging my local environment of the Indian Mynah is satisfying.

Deer without a doubt ......they have survived the ages being hunted by tigers in their natural habitat .....evading humans is easier!!
